3'7 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 30, 1979 <br />proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the <br />Tri- County News which were found to be sufficient. There was no <br />one present to speak on the Assessment Roll and no written <br />remonstrances were filed with the Board. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the Assessment <br />Roll listing $0.00 net benefits and $0.00 net damages was approved <br />and said resolution is in all things ratified and confirmed and <br />said proceedings closed. <br />REQUEST TO USE FIRE TRUCK IN PARADE APPROVED <br />Chief Oscar Van Wiele submitted to the Board a request from the <br />Maurice Matthys Little League to use a Fire Truck in their Opening <br />Day parade on May 19. Chief Van Wiele recommended approval of <br />the request. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. <br />Mullen and carried, the request was approved. <br />RUM VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION RE: WILLIAM STREET PROBLEMS <br />Representatives of the.Rum Village Neighborhood Association were <br />present. Art Garden spoke for the group and called attention to <br />a number of problems with properties located in the 1600 and 1700 <br />blocks of S. William Street. Complaints listed were of junk, <br />debris, abandoned vehicles, alleged operation of a junk yard in a <br />residential neighborhood and trash trucks parking on the street. <br />A number of photographs and a list of properties with violations <br />was submitted to the Board. Mr. Garden said the Neighbhood <br />Association has been trying without success to get some action on <br />these problems. He said the residents are tax - paying citizens and <br />should not have to put up with the situation. He asked the Board <br />to take some action regarding the problems. Mr. Brunner noted that <br />the City did address problems in this area last summer with some <br />degree of success. He said these complaints will be investigated <br />immediately and appropriate actions taken. A check will be made <br />of the Environmental Office and other departments to determine <br />what actions have been taken in the area.. A report will be available <br />tomorrow. The Board thanked the neighborhood association for <br />appearing today to bring this matter to their attention. <br />STREET SWEEPING CONTRACT RENEWED <br />Patrick McMahon advised the Board that the City entered into a <br />contract with Ries Equipment Company last year for street sweeping. <br />The contract provided for renewal. The contract has been negotiated <br />for a lesser amount and will be renewed at the approximate amount <br />of $90,000 for 1979. John Stancati, Director of Utilities, and <br />Joseph Gawrysiak, Director of Transportation, reviewed the contract <br />and negotiated the current year's price and Mr. Stancati recommended <br />approval by the Board of the renewal. Upon motion made by Mr. <br />McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried the contract was renewed. <br />SUBGRANT AGREEMENTS APPROVED - HANSEL CENTER AND URBAN LEAGUE <br />Elroy J. Kelzenberg, Director of the Bureau of Manpower and <br />Training, submitted to the Board Subgrant Agreements between CETA <br />and Hansel Center and the Urban League.. The Hansel Center agreement <br />is in the amount of $7,564 for the period from April 1 through <br />August 31, 1979 for the Sumner Youth Employment Program. Upon motion <br />made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the agreement <br />was approved. The Agreement.with the Urban League is in the amount <br />of $7,564 for the period April l to August 31, 1979 for the Summer <br />Youth Employment Program. Upon motion made by Tyr. McMahon, seconded <br />by Mr. Mullen and carried, the agreement was approved. <br />
