South Bend Redevelopment Commission Regular Meeting –April 9, 2010 inside the house with a family and outside the house with a big garden. The third important reason we chose our home, and that’s the reason I am here to talk about, is the neighborhood and location. When we first looked at the house we thought, how cool is this! Within walking distance to Menard’s and Martin’s, yet tucked away on a nice little street with other houses. We quickly got to know our neighbors, most of whom are here today, and even though there aren’t many of them, we enjoy the sense of community that we do have with them. There were many times that I would walk down to visit the Pickfords, who lived at the house on the corner, what will be acquired in the time line. Before the Wrubles moved in to where they live, which is right next to where the Pickfords live, the Blackfords lived there, they were a young family like us and it was really fun visiting each others houses and chatting about kids and housework, and things that neighbors talk about. In fact, even though the Blackfords moved to Indy, I still keep in contact with them. When the Wrubles moved in, we quickly got to know them and there are many occasions, in fact, just one the other night, when it was still warm out. We were out walking and would stop and chat, just like neighbors do. Our son, Benjamin, gets a kick out of seeing Sockey’s mommy and daddy. They have a dog named Sockey, and my son just loves him. When we went on vacation a few months ago, they came to our home, and got our mail and papers for us without us even asking them to do that. It’s a neighbor thing to do. And the Keszeis, the next property that is going to be acquired, he always got a kick walking around our back yard looking for golf balls. We always got a lot of them because of the course.
