<br />Jefferson Avenue north to McKinley Avenue. The Board was in agreement that an. inspectional
<br />'should be made jointly by the City Engineers of South Bend and Mishawaka, and the type
<br />,of improvement and division of cost, determined upon by the Engineers, is to be submitted]
<br />,.to the Board for approval or rejection.
<br />The Commissioner then took up with the Board the closing of an alley at a point
<br />where no alley exists; at 1024'Western Avenue. It was agreed an inspection will be made a
<br />by the Engineering Department, and if "alley" in question is found to be private property;
<br />`the aomplaina.nt apparently being the property owner, will be advised to fence the area
<br />,now being used by the public.
<br />A request for the posting of NO SWIMMING signs at the McKinley Lagoon was next
<br />1considered, and the Board, thereupon, directed the Street Department to proceed with such',;
<br />posting of signs, and instructed the Chief of Police to enforce this "NO SWIMMING" edict.';
<br />The complaint of the Hibberd Printing Company, placed with the Board, relative to
<br />(sand washing down from the parking lots on opposite side of the alley from the printing
<br />jcompanyrs premises, causing a serious dust condition, was referred to the Street Commiss
<br />loner with a view to the Commissioner being able to negotiate corrective measures with
<br />;the parking lot property owner.
<br />A petition,,dated August 11, 1955, to vacate first alley west of Kaley Street,
<br />from Colfax Avenue to the fist alley south of Colfax Avenue, was referred to the City
<br />Planning Commission for investigation and recommendation.
<br />A petition, dated August 15, 1955, to vacate 26th Street and Marshall Street,
<br />�s laid out and dedicated in the recorded plats of Tuxedo Park lst and 2nd Subdivisions,
<br />in Jefferson Heights Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana, was examined and
<br />referred to the City Planning Commission.
<br />Then appeared before the Board two property owners in in the vacation of
<br />alley running east and west from Ironwood Drive east to Congress Avenue, between Solomon
<br />Avenue and Union Street in Edison Park Subdivision, and discussion ensued concerning the
<br />retention of easement in connection with the maintaining of city sewers; it being
<br />specifically stressed that at no time is any type of construction to be built on this
<br />fourteen foot strip. This was referred to the Engineering Department for further action.
<br />The Board next examined blueprint descriptive of a 214" canopy to be constructed
<br />on building for Vito,Rulli at 2315 Lincolnway West. The Board granted approval, with
<br />the stipulation that construction bust comply with the structural requirements of the
<br />Building Department.
<br />Discusson was then given to the widening of Eddy Street, between Jefferson Boule-
<br />vard and Madison Street, and the Clerk was authorized to proceed with the required
<br />legal advertising for bids.
<br />The time now being 10:00 A. M. C.S.T. it was so announced, and the chairman of
<br />the Board proceeded with the opening of bids as follows:
