After some discussion <br />the Board authorized the City Controller to .make arrangements with the licensed Veter- <br />narians of St. Joseph County to act as agents for the issuance of City dog licenses. <br />The Commissioner next requested authorization to proceed with the legal advertising <br />for bids to supply the City with its required needs for gravel, sand and asphaltic oils <br />for the year of 1955. Authorization was granted and the Clerk was Directed to advertise <br />accordingly. <br />The time now being.10:00 A. RT. CST. the Board proceeded to open the single bid <br />received for the supplying of rock salt, which was found to be as follows: <br />500 Tons or less STERLING DETROIT "CC" ROCK SALT <br />BULK - Minimum truckload - 20 tons ........... @ 13.80 - $6900.00 <br />100 # T,TULTI-WALL PAPER BAGS - rein. truckload 10 tons..19.80 - -�9900.00 <br />Bid was accompanied by non -collusion affidavit and certified check in the amount <br />of $990.00, and bid was thereupon awarded to the International Salt Company, Inc. of <br />Scranton, Pennsylvania. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2807 <br />This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by <br />CD <br />'the Board of Public Works for the vacation of TIFTE ALLEY BETWEEN LOTS #231 and 232 IN <br />SUNNYMEDE lst ADDITION, FROM THE NORTHERN MOST CORNER OF LOT ;1232 to the northwest <br />corner of Lot 231 on the North, and to the north line of Sunnymede Avenue on the South, <br />ii under Vacation Resolution No. 2807. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient <br />proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances <br />having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that <br />the said resolution be finally adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering <br />Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of bene- <br />fits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2807 <br />R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards <br />of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of THE ALLEY <br />BETWEEN LOTS NUMBERED 231 and 232 IN SUNI\T"T,'r'DE 1ST ADDITION, FROM THE NORTHERNMOST <br />CORNER OF LOT NU!vSERED 232 TO THE NORTHWEST CORNER'OF LOT NUMBERED 231 ON THE NORTH, AND <br />TO THE NORTH LIT'E OF SUNNY11EDE AVENUE ON THE SOUTT , under Vacation Resolution No. 2807. <br />In. the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in <br />the City Hall at 10:00 A. T. CST. on the 31st day of January, 1955, for the purpose <br />of hearing and receiving reronstrances from all persons interested in or affected by <br />said vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with <br />the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners <br />by publishing same on the 7th day of January, on the 14th day of January, and on the <br />21st day of January, 1955, in the South Bend Tribune and Tri-County News. <br />The Board then re-examined the complaint of five merchants in the 100 block of <br />West Jefferson Boulevard, and upon weighing all factors involved, arrived at the unan- <br />imous decision to order the removal of news-stand operated by IT.,Tr. George Yeich. The <br />Board, accordingly, directed the Clerk to so notify Mr. Yeich, date for removal to be <br />not later than I."arch 1, 1955. <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTT.qENT: <br />Attention was called to the Traffic Engineerts need for six 2-way 3-section traffic, <br />signal heads, and the Board directed the Clerk to proceed with the purchase of the <br />required equipment. <br />The Board next proceeded to place in effect the following procedure and detail <br />for the authorizing of medial treatment and physical examinations for City employees: <br />1. Employees shall be treated by city physicians only for injuries <br />or illness incurred in the course of their employment with the City. <br />2. The authorizing person shall call one of the three listed city <br />physicians and make an appointment for the employee. <br />3. In case of emergency the employee shall be taken to a hospital <br />emergency room and then a city physician contacted as soon as <br />possible for emergency treatment or hospitalization. <br />4. The form of authorization shall be filled out in triplicate by <br />the authorizing party. Employee will submit the three copies to <br />the designated physician who in turn will complete endorsement <br />of forms, retain one copy and send original and one copy to the <br />city controller. The controller shall.submit one copy to personnel <br />department for entry in personnel records. <br />
