<br />The Board next reviewed the bids received under date of September 27th for
<br />supplying the Street Department with two pick-up trucks. The bid was awarded to
<br />Scherman-Schaus-%Free rnan Company for the slur. of ,�2517.20, as this was the lowest
<br />and best bid submitted.
<br />The Elgin Sweeper Company, Elgin Illinois was awarded the bid for one Elgin
<br />81D Sweeper for the Street Department for the sum of 11,118.75f for delivery within
<br />thirty day4 and the Clerk of the Board was directed to issue purchase order for same.
<br />The City Sales Company, 5909 Kenmore Avenue, Chicago, Illinois was awarded
<br />the contract for OK Champion Power Cleaning Machines, for the sum of $2L�441.80, as this
<br />bid was found to be satisfactory and the only one submitted per legal advertising.
<br />The Clerk of the Board was directed to issue purchase order accordingly.
<br />The Board next examined drawing for a canopy for office building of Dr.. Lindborg
<br />and Dr. B. E. Vodnoy, at 801 N. Michigan Street and approved same with the stipulation
<br />that it complies with the building code governing same. This was referred to the
<br />Building Department for consideration.
<br />As no formal bids were received as per legal advertisement under date of
<br />September 27th, the Board approved the recommendation of Mr. Tomlinson that a transfer
<br />of - funds from S-261 to S_-12 and S-43 be made to rehabilitate the fence on Lincolnway
<br />East. The Board authorized the Street Department personnel to make the necessary
<br />repairs.
<br />A letter from Consoer, Townsend & Associates, under date of September 29th,
<br />recommending the approval of the Federal Cement Tile Co., 808 South Dearborn Street,
<br />Chicago, as a sub -contractor for Sollitt Construction Company, General Contractor
<br />for the City on the construction of the Sewage Treatment Plant, was approved by the
<br />Board and the Clerk was directed to notify Solitt Construction Company accordingly.
<br />The Board also authorized the release of Purchase Order No. BW5525, covering
<br />10,000 feet of guy wire required for the installing of center lane overhead signs.

<br />R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the award
<br />of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of TEN FOOT j
<br />PUBLIC ;NALK`tgJAY between lots 314 and 315 in Edison Park Addition, TEN FOOT PUBLIC WALK;.;
<br />NAY between lots 333 and 334 in Edison Park Addition, and FOURTEEN FOOT PUBLIC ALLEY
<br />between lots 328, 329, 330 and 331 in Edison Park Addition to the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, under Vacation Resolution No. 2800.
<br />In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in
<br />the City Tlall at 11:00 A. TV. on the ls't day of November, 1954-for`.purpose :of hearing and
<br />receiving remonstrances -from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation,
<br />and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of
<br />damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing
<br />same on the 8th day of October, on the 15th day of October and on the 22nd day of
<br />October, 1954, in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News.

<br />This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the
<br />award of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of THE ALLEY
<br />10TEST OF LELAND AVENUE FROM THE NORTH LINE OF THE EAST-VVUST ALLEY, NORTH TO CALIFORNIA
<br />AVENUE, under Vacation Resolution No. 2799.
<br />In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written
<br />remonstrances were filed, the Clerk of the Board submitted proffs of publication of
<br />notices and same were found sufficient, and the Board, therefore, finds that the
<br />several lots and parcels of land have been benefited and damaged in the amounts shown
<br />on said roll. The Board, therefore, decided to take final action on said assessment
<br />roll and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification
<br />and the proceedings closed, and the portion of the alley vacated upon receipt of the
<br />amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefited and all
<br />proceedings had with reference to said alley vacation are hereby sustained.

<br />AND BROO17IELD STREET by constructing a Class "C" 6" Cement Concrete Pavement be and the
<br />same is in all things confirmed.
