<br />The request of the St. Joseph County Society for Crippled Children for permission
<br />to conduct their annual Lily Parade Flower Sale on the downtown streets on Saturday,
<br />April 10, 1954, was granted by the Board.
<br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2770 - 1954
<br />This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the
<br />Board of Public Works & Safety, for the vacation of LOTS, UTILITY EASEMENTS AND STREETS,
<br />ALL IN A PART OF EDISON PARK ADDITION TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, under Vacation i
<br />Resolution No. 2770.

<br />The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remon-
<br />strators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk,
<br />it was moored, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally
<br />adopted and the said lots, utility easements and streets be vacated. The Engineering
<br />Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits
<br />and the award of damages to the surrounding properties.
<br />R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the award of
<br />damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of lots, utility
<br />easements and streets, all in a part of Edison Park Addition, under Vacation Resolution
<br />No. 2770.
<br />In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in
<br />:the City Hall at 10:00 A. M. on the 29th day of March 1954 for the purpose of hearing
<br />;and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation,
<br />'and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of
<br />!damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing
<br />!same on the 5th day of March, on the 12th day of March and on the 19th day of March
<br />1954, in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News.
<br />Approval of the State Board of Tax Commissioners, bearing the signature of A. L.
<br />Fossler, Chairman and the Boardts Seal, under date of February 18, 1954, for the issuance!
<br />of the Sewage Works Revenue Bonds, was examined by the Board and ordered placed on file.;;
<br />Warranty Deed, conveying and warranting to St. Joseph County a certain parcel of
<br />land as an addition to the property of the St. Joseph County Detention Home, for the
<br />consideration of one dollar ($1.00) and other valuable consideration, was examined and
<br />signed by the Board.
<br />A petition submitted by the Board of Trustees of the School City of South Bend,
<br />for the vacating of specified portions of.certain avenuesand alleys in Edison Park
<br />Addition, was examined and referred to the City Plan Commission for recommendation and
<br />report:
<br />The petition of the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company, dated February 17, 1954,
<br />for permission to reconstruct roofs of transformer vaults and other construction at
<br />locations indicated on accompanying drawings, was examined and approved by the Board.
<br />Upon the recommendation of the consulting engineers, Consoer, Townsend & Associates,
<br />the Board, awarded the Material Testing for the Sewage Treatment Plant to the Robert
<br />W. Hunt Company, 175 W. Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois, and directed the Clerk
<br />to issue the necessary notification to the Sollitt Construction Company, Inc.
<br />The Board next examined and approved a drawing showing sewer improvement proposed
<br />for MacArthur Avenue, from Pyle Avenue to and of Rockne Drive, as submitted by Wilbur
<br />H. Gartner & Associates.
<br />The recommendation of the consulting engineers, Consoer, Townsend and Associates,
<br />that the Raymond Concrete Pile Company be approved as sub:contractor for piling, in
<br />connection with the Sewage Treatment Plant construction, was next considered by the
<br />Board, approved,and the Clerk was directed to notify Sollitt Construction Company, Inc.
<br />accordingly.
<br />Next appeared before the Board, Mrs. Bessie McDonald, requesting that the alley
<br />between Rex Street and California, adjoining her property at 621 Rex Street, be paved
<br />to eliminate continual mud holes and the splashing of mud against her residence. Mrs.
<br />McDonald also requested the posting of SLOW signs to reduce the speeding of trucks and
<br />automobile traffic through this alley. St. Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present,,
<br />informed Mrs. McDonald that temporary repair of alley was being performed at this time.
<br />Chairman of the Board, R. S. Andrysiak, informed Mrs. McDonald that paving of the alley
<br />will proceed only upon petition of the majority of property owners involved.,
