<br />' Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, reported on matters pertaining
<br />to the -Street and Sanitation Departments, and mentioned the need for additional trash
<br />(;containers in the downtown area, and suggested that these cans be painted yellow, the
<br />adopted standard color for Street Department equipment. The Board granted approval for
<br />;both the additional containers and the change in color.
<br />The Board next examined and approved local sewer improvement plan, including easement'
<br />between Ironwood Drive and Congress Avenue, from the center line of Lot 14 in Edison Park!!
<br />;Addition to the south line of Union Avenue.
<br />The Board then examined and approved the following sewer plans for McKinley Terrace
<br />;Addition, Section "B":

<br />A petition, dated October 3, 1953, to vacate public utility easement between lots j
<br />75 and 76 in Edison Park Addition, from the north common corner of both lots to a point

<br />70 feet south along the common property line of both lots, was examined and referred to
<br />the City Plan Commission.

<br />j` Protective restrictions pertaining to Zook1s First Subdivision, as drawn up
<br />land submitted to the Board by Attorney Seymour Weisberger, for Zook Realty of South Bend 11
<br />!Inc., and bearing the signatures of the president and secretary, and the corporate seal
<br />of this firm under date of October 26, 1953, was examined and approved by the Board. j
<br />This being the time set for the hearing pertaining to the vacating of a portion of '!
<br />'Kaley Street and the alley between Kaley Street and Meade Street, abutting on Lots 125,
<br />126, and 127, and Lots 82, 83 and 84 of Kaleyts First and Second Subdivision, announce- �
<br />jment was so made, and the Board heard the following remonstrators:
<br />Joseph Edwards, 2617 Kenwood Avenue, remonstrating because he believes the vacating
<br />:would lower property Values in the area, and stated his remonstrance is against both the
<br />'Vacating of the portion of Kaley Street and the alley vacation.
<br />Frank S. Szarwark, 2621 Kenwood Avenue, remonstrated against the alley vacation,
<br />:although his signature is shown on the petition calling for this vacation. Mr. Szarwark
<br />explained that at the time he signed the petition he had not considered the garbage and l
<br />;ash -hauling aspects involved, and believes now he will be inconvenienced in this respect I
<br />.by the vacating of the alley.

<br />Ben Wojciechowski, 2609 Kenwood Avenue, remonstrated against the vacating of a
<br />portion of Kaley Street, stating this would throw an excess of traffic,at certain periods
<br />,over an unpaved section of Meade Street, causing a dust condition.

<br />Mrs. Joseph Edwards, 2617 Kenwood Avenue, remonstrates against the vacation, and
<br />estates here views in the matter coincide with those of her husband. !I
<br />Mrs. Minnie Pietrzak, 2615 Kenwood Avenue, stated only that she opposed the
<br />vacation.
<br />The Board took the matter under further advisement.
