16
'i
TRAFFIC DEPARTMt NT:
A letter from the State Highway Commission, under date of May 8, 1953, to which
was attached copies of the agreement to be entered into in connection with the in- a
stallation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Michigan and Tutt Streets, was
next read and the agreement examined, approved and signed.
r
The truck traffic situation on West Indiana Avenue was next reviewed by the Board,
and a verbal report of findings, covering the past week, was made by Traffic Engineer,
E. H. Miller. It was pointed out that the Brodbeck Trucking Company,, Inc., was `in-
dicated by the survey to be the greatest offender. The possibility of enforcing a
weight limit statute or ordinance, as well as the possibility of re -zoning of the
area from industrial to residential received further consideration. One of the
Petitioning home -owners present, asked that full time speed limit enforcement be
placed in. effect. Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, being present, stated that an
officer could not be spared to render full time service in this limited area -at this
time. The petitioners present were assured by the Board of the matter having the
Boardfs serious consideration and study.
STREET DEPARTMENT:
Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, the Board authorized and
directed that he proceed to oil Lathrop Avenue from Portage Avenue to the sanitary
land fill, and also apply oil on Olive Street, from Lathrop south, where dust -laying
is necessary. The Board deemed this special oiling operation necessary because
refuse trucks now use these streets to excess.
RESOLUTTION ADOPTING FINAL ASSESSMENT ROLL
RESOLUTION NO. 2733 - 1952
After hearing all persons interested who appeared and the Clerk of the Board of
Public Works and Safety having proofs of publication of the notices to property owners
and the same having been found sufficient, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, that the Primary or Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the
4th day of May, 1953, for the improvement of ALLEY BETWEEN IRONWOOD DRIVE AND TWENTY
THIRD STREET be and the same is in all things confirmed.
R.
