<br />RESOLVED; that we hereby adopt the following schedule of rates
<br />to be charged at the site of the new land fill:
<br />10� per passenger automobile
<br />15X per 1/2-ton pick-up truck
<br />25� per large truck, except that
<br />a charge of $1.00 is to be paid
<br />by any unlicensed scavenger.
<br />A petition, dated May 7, 1953, submitted by Ralph W. Cripe, to improve Mishawaka
<br />Avenue, from Emerson Street to Twyckenham Drive, by the construction of a Class "C"
<br />Type 4A pavement, under the Barrett Law Plan, was next examined and referred to the
<br />City Engineer for investigation -end. report.
<br />In view of the report received by the Board from the City Plan Commission, the
<br />petition of Ralph W. Cripe and Irene Harper, for an alley vacation, submitted under
<br />date of March 26th, was disapproved by the Board and the Clerk was directed to return
<br />to Mr. Cripe the deposit for the purpose of legal advertising.
<br />Next appeared before the Board, Messrs. Paul Wynegar, Robert Clem, and Marquis
<br />Lake, representing the property -owners in the 900 block of north Twyckenham Drive,
<br />complaining of a serious dust condition, due to an abnormal amount of traffic on this
<br />dirt street, They asked that steps be taken also to enforce speed limits. The improve-
<br />ment of this street by the application of a good grade of road oil was decided upon
<br />as the best immediate solution of the problem and the Street Commissioner is to furnish
<br />Mr. Wynegar with a quotation within a few days for the oiling of a twenty -foot width
<br />with a good quality bituminous oil.
<br />STREET DEPARTTOENT:
<br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, brought to the attention of
<br />the Board, a quotation of $2985.00 made by Andrew Troeger & Company to construct and
<br />install the required dust -arrester for the Street Department's asphalt plant. The
<br />matter was given thorough discussion, and funds being available for transfer to meet
<br />this cost, which in the consensus of opinion of the Board was reasonable for this type
<br />installation, it was the decision of the Board to accept Andrew Troeger and Compa.nyts
<br />quotation and place same on file, pending transfer of the required funds.
<br />The Board next gave further consideration to bids opened at the April 27th meeting
<br />to provide a 10-ton bulldozer, and after some discussion, it was decided to set the
<br />matter aside for some additional study.
<br />Proposals received from the Niles Excavating Company for the repair of sewer in theld0
<br />block of South Kaley Street and in the 400 block of South Kaley, were examined by the
<br />Board and found to be satisfactory. The Clerk was directed to notify the Niles Excava-
<br />ting Company and Street Commissioner Tomlinson to proceed with this work on the basis
<br />of the proposals submitted.
<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTIVENT:
<br />E. H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, being present, brought to the Board's attention,
<br />a needed action to perfect the successful operation of Goodland Avenue, -as a one-way
<br />street for north -bound traffic. It was Engineer Millerts recommendation that the
<br />one block of Ardmore Trail, from Goodland Avenue southwesterly to Bendix Drive, be
<br />declared and posted as one-way, for use of southwesterly -bound traffic only. The j
<br />Engineer's recommendation was approved by the Board.
<br />Engineer Miller reported to the Board on his findings relative to heavy truck
<br />traffic on west Indiana Avenue, stating that the two principal haulers have agreed to
<br />discontinue using West Indiana Avenue for heavy trucking operations. Engineer Miller s
<br />further stated that he is continuing his survey and believes it will be possible to
<br />reduce heavy hauling on west Indiana Avenue to a minimum, and eliminate further complain;,.
<br />A progress report in connection with the sewage treatment plant, under date of
<br />May 4, 1953, submitted by Consoer, Townsend & Associates, was read by the Board with
<br />favorable comment, and ordered placed on file.
<br />A letter received by the Board from Miss Louise P. Taylor, in which it is proposed
<br />to wreck obsolete building at the corner of Main and South Streets, and make use of
<br />the lot for parking purposes, was examined by the Board and such use of lot approved
<br />by the Board. The Clerk was directed to inform Miss Taylor accordingly.
<br />The installation of S-T-O-P signs on St. Vincent Street at Eddy Street was approved
<br />by the Board.
<br />The application of Charles Howell for taxi -cab driver's license was examined by
<br />the Board and rejected.
