572,
by the Board, and the Clerk was directed to re -advertise, offering for trade-in one
1947 Dodge Coupe damaged in wreck.
Next appeared a committee representing Better Homes of South Bend, Inc., of which
'I the president of this organization, Mrs. Arnold Allen, was spokesman. Mrs. Allen out-
lined to the Board the problem with which they are now confronted, after having con-
structed nine homes in their North Elmer Street home site, due to being prevented from
occupancy by the terms established by the Federal Housing Authority, which they are
Tunable to meet. The committee appealed to the Board for their advice and co-operation i
bringing about sufficient alleviation in the demands now required, that will permit
1 occupancy of those homes already constructed.
it
The City Engineer, R. S. Andrysiak, called attention to the fact that this dilemma
had been anticipated and the organization so advised. Much discussion followed and the
suggestion was made that FHA could be informed by the committee that the City is agree-
able to and would accept minimum. requirements for street improvements, and it was hoped
thereby the FHA would be inclined to reduce their demands in view of such improvement.
The City Engineer suggested that the committee through Mrs. Allen, contact Mr. DeHart
;Hubbard, of Cleveland, Ohio, in the matter of having special effort put forward by
Mr. Hubbard at this time to have FHA reduce the stringency of their present requirements
in order that the available housing can be occupied.
This being the time set for the opening of bids, the chairman so announced and
proceeded as follows:
ELECTRICAL DEPART10ENT:
ROIt1IY HAI,IMES COMPANY,
223 N.
