Crothers, I <br />Clerk of the Board. <br />A petition for the improvement of Kentucky Street from Western Avenue to Washington <br />,Street by the construction of concrete pavement, was next examined by the Board and i <br />referred to the City Engineer for investigation. <br />A petition for the improvement of South Chicago Street from Western Avenue to <br />Washington Street by the construction of concrete pavement was examined and referred <br />to the City Engineer for investigation. <br />• The Board, together with Bert Cichowicz, inspector of Weights and Measures, � <br />re-examined the bids to supply one 4-door Sedan for the Department of Weights and Measurels, <br />arid --upon deciding the bid of Scherman-Schaus-Freeman Company to be the lowest and best bid, � <br />.,contract was so awarded. <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />STREET DEPARTi,"_17NT: <br />Harry M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, brought to the Board's <br />attention the Street Department's need for a heavy-duty Studebaker truck with a box <br />of three cubic yards capacity, stating in this connection that the three Studebaker <br />trucks with which the department is at present equipped have been de -commissioned as be- <br />ing no longer fit for service. After some discussion of the situation, it was agreed <br />that the best one of these three should be given an overhaul and put back in regular <br />service for a period of sixty to ninety days, at which time the Board will consider <br />purchase of a new truck. <br />The Street Commissioner next brought up the need for new street.siCD <br />gns in certain <br />areas, and Mr. Wayne Hall, a representative of the Lyle Sign Company of Minneapolis, <br />being present, was given the privilege of showing and demonstrating to the Board the <br />Street signs his firm is prepared to supply, at no increase in price over quotations <br />made two years previously. Liss Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of the Civic <br />Planning Association, suggested that South Bend adopt the street marking sign which <br />indicates also the block number, and which is a decided convenience, and in her opinion <br />should be put into effect on all arterial streets. The Board directed that quotations <br />be obtained from three or more competing sign firms, and the needed street signs <br />purchased from the manufacturer offering the product considered to be the best for our <br />requirements. <br />The Board approved plans,submitted by Hartman Builders, for sewer in Chicago <br />Street in the Chicago Plaza Addition. <br />There being no further business to comae before the Board the meeting adjourned <br />ai: i p - nn nnnn _ <br />Attest:/W.,.X. � <br />Clerk <br />
