<br />City, as was made at the time their present quarters were built, to cover this new
<br />extension, inasmuch as this construction occupies the unused area of East Washington I
<br />Street extended, immediately on the east bank of the St. Joseph River. The Board was
<br />agreeable in the matter, and agreement is to be submitted for signatures at the next
<br />regular meeting of the Board. f`
<br />1v1r. W. H. Tolle, Director of the Department of Public Welfare, next appeared
<br />before the Board, in regard to parking facilities for Welfare Department personnel, II
<br />immediately in the rear of their new quarters on East Washington Street. Objection
<br />has been raised that part of the property so used by the Welfare Department is private
<br />property. The Board informed Mr. Tolle it could take no action in the matter without
<br />the presentation of a formal petition. i
<br />A quotation received from W. J. Braunsdorf & Son, to install an electric water �
<br />heater in the City Hall was examined by the Board, found to be satisfactory and reason-
<br />able in cost, and the Clerk was thereupon directed to have this installation made witl,j.-,I�
<br />out further delay.
<br />A petition to improve by construction of sewers one-half block of South Ironwood A
<br />Drive, between East Eirving Avenue and East Altgeld Street, bearing three signatures, If
<br />• was referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report.

<br />• The Board next examined a petition, dated February 13, 1953, from Garden Homes, Inc
<br />over the siganture of Hubert A. 1,,eaver, Vice President, in regard to the vacation of
<br />streets, alleys and utility easements in the recorded plat of Belleville Unit "D"
<br />Addition. The Board referred the petition to the City Plan Commission for their
<br />approval.
<br />The matter of the application for cab license of arshall Holycross was held in
<br />abeyance for consideration at the next regular meeting.

<br />The Board next reviewed bids opened at the regular meeting on February 9th, and
<br />awarded contract to the Favorite Equipment Co., Oak Park, Illinois to provide the
<br />• Street Department with one 9,000T,
<br />s. 1 capacity hoisting unit and four three cubic yard
<br />bottom -dumping hopper
<br />Bids to supply 1953 Business Coupe for the use of the Board of Health were re-
<br />examined and continued under advisement.
<br />The Quit Claim Deed given by the Land Developers Company, Inc. deeding to the
<br />City of South Bend, the follo,rinrr described real estate, was next examined and approved
<br />by the Board,:
