514 <br />s <br />After considerable discussion, City Engineer, R. S. Andrysiak agreed to write a xk`` <br />letter to the South Shore Railroad Company outlining the proposed solution to this dust <br />condition. <br />Mr. Tomlinson also brought up the matter of the burning of leaves on the pavement, <br />which is causing great damage to the pavement, and the necessity of publicizing the <br />Ordinance pertaining to the burning of leaves. <br />Mr. Tomlinson also stated that the Publix Advertising Company are awaiting a decision • <br />in the matter of supplying the City with 100 waste paper or litter cans, which the Board <br />inspected a few weeks ago. The Board directed Mr. Tomlinson to have the company submit <br />a contract to the City and also post the necessary bond. The. Board to have the privilege <br />of editing all advertising copy, and no liquor ad. is to appear on any of the cans. <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: <br />Upon recommendation of Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, the Board granted Mr. Robert <br />Gawthorpe,of the Courtesy Cab Company,a one -cab stand in front of 122 West Colfax <br />Avenue instead of at the alley as requested. <br />The Board approved the petition, dated September 22,1952, of the Indiana Cab Company <br />for a two -car cab stand on the East side of Michigan Street, just South of Washington, <br />upon the recommendation of the traffic engineer. <br />The petition requesting parking elimination on the North side of Lawton Street <br />between Olive and Meade Streets was approved by the Board, upon recommendation of E. H. i <br />Miller, due to the narrow roadway width of Lawton Street in this area. <br />The petition, dated August 25th, signed by several Kaley Street residents, requesting <br />that truck traffic be prohibited from Kaley Street,'between Western Avenue and Colfax <br />Avenue was denied. The Board directed E. H. Miller- Traffic Engineer, to post • <br />"Through Trucks Prohibited" signs on Kaley, at Western and at Washington, north-of`the <br />New York Central Railroad tracks. <br />The matter of installing a traffic signal at Western and Sheridan Avenue, as per <br />motion carried in September 22nd meeting of the City Council and referred to the Board, <br />October 6th, was held up temporarily pending the gathering of data., by the State, <br />necessary to raa.ch a decision in the matter, was somewhat delayed due to the closing of <br />Western Avenue, 'but Mr. Miller reported that in checking with State Officials, that <br />the necessary data has now been forwarded to Indianapolis and a final decision should <br />be forthcoming very soon. <br />The following traffic lights were approved by the Board <br />Calvert and Twyckenham <br />Lafayette & Madison <br />Lincolnway West and Lawndale <br />26th Street and Mishawaka Avenue. <br />The installation of STOP SIGNS at the following locations were approved by the <br />Board: <br />On Allen at Vassar Avenue <br />On Adams at Keller Street <br />On Prast at Johnson Street <br />On Prast at Olive Street • <br />On Rockne Drive at Ironwood Drive <br />On Brookfield at Marquette Boulevard. <br />Changes in the following regulation signs were approved by the Board - j <br />"No Parking 6 A.M. to 9 A.M." regulation on the west side'of Williams Stbeetll <br />between Washington and Colfax, to read - 1 <br />"No Parking 6 A.M. to 9 A.M. - 3 P. M. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTILIENT: ( r <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2737 - 1952 <br />October 13, 1952 being a holiday, and the date set for hearing on Resolution No.2737 <br />hearing was postponed until this date. <br />Hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public Works <br />and Safety for the vacation of Carroll Street from the South line of Farneman Avenue, • <br />thence southerly alono said Carroll Street, a distance of 81.6 feet more or less, being <br />the termination of said Carroll Street in said locality. <br />
