Wellington Street, which had been <br />1presented to the Common Council at their regular meeting on July 14th and referred by <br />that body to the Board of Public Works, suggesting action tinder the Smoke Ordinance, was <br />Inext examined. It was found to carry twenty-six signatures of Wellington and Kenmore <br />Street residents. The Board deferred action pending investigation of the condition. <br />A directive from the Office of the City Clerk, dated July 15, 1952, was examined <br />and contained the following matter for the Board's action: <br />"Councilman Glass made a motion that the Board of Public Works <br />report to the Council at their next meeting on July 28th on <br />what is being done about the East Jefferson Boulevard Sewer. <br />• I� Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. 1+lotion carried." <br />i <br />AWARDING CONTRACTS <br />In. the matter of the Bids for the improvement of BULLA STREET from the westerly <br />dine of Portage Avenue to the west line of ledora Street ( south) in accordance with <br />Improvement Resolution No. 2677, 1951, passed by the Board May 12, 1952 and confirmed <br />!!by the Board on June 16, 1952, for Bituminous Concrete AH Surface AND <br />i <br />Bids for the improvement of FELLOWS STREET from the south line of Ewing Avenue <br />Ito the north line of Altgeld Street -in accordance with improvement resolution No. 2716, <br />• 11952, passed by the Board on Tlay 12, 1952, and confirmed by this Board on June 16, 1952, <br />Ifor Bituminous Concrete AH Surface pavement AND <br />Bids for the improvement of 11ASSAR AVENUE from the east line of Olive Street to <br />the west line of Elmer Street in accordance with Improvement Resolution No..2717, 1952, <br />passed by this Board on T'Iay 12, 1952, and confirmed by the Board on June 16, 1952, for <br />Class "C f Bituminous Concrete AH Surface pavement AND, <br />Bids for the improvement of ALLEY BETWEEN ADAMS STREET AND COLLEGE STREET from the <br />north line of Humboldt Street to the alley north of Humboldt Street in accordance with <br />Improvement Resolution No. 2719,-1952-,- passed by the Board on May 12, 1952 and confirmed <br />by this Board on June 16th, 1952, for Class "C" Cement Concrete. <br />The above bids were awarded to Rieth-Riley Construction Co. as they submitted the <br />lowest and best bids. <br />A request from Colip Brothers, Inc. under date of July 1T, 1952, for the <br />installation of a 4-inch steam -line under the sidewalk at 301 S. Michigan Street was <br />next considered and the drawings pertaining thereto examined by the Board. This <br />installation was approved and permission granted Colip Bros. accordingly. <br />Condition of the sidewalk in the 600 block Portage Avenue was again considered by <br />the Board, and the Clerk was directed to notify property owners to make the necessary <br />(repairs without further delay. <br />0 ' VACATION RESOLUTION( No. 2730 - 1952 <br />RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: <br />That it is desirable to vacate the follov.ring: <br />ALLEY BETWEEN WAYNTE S TREE T AND SUN 1N 17I ]EDE AVENUE <br />FROM T.`1YCKENHAP± DRIVE l�aEST 155 FEET, HORS OR LESS, <br />TO THAT PART OF THE ALLEY PREVIOUSLY VACATED. <br />The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such <br />vacation: <br />Lots Numbered 170 and 219 Sunnymed.e First <br />Addition, and Lots Numbered 220 to 224 <br />inclusive, Sunnymede First Addition. <br />
