<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, July 21, 1952 at
<br />10:00 A. M. Members present were R. S. Andrysiak and G. P. Ziegler. Minutes of the

<br />The Board first gave consideration to a proposal from Vic Trippel to lower sewer
<br />line for Fire Station No. 13 to secure the required fall. Decision in the matter was
<br />held in abeyance pending a check of the encumbered funds for the plumbing in connection
<br />with construction of this fire station.
<br />The proposed construction of a curved front canopy by the Tastee Freez Corporation
<br />of Northern Indiana, 3601 Mishawaka Avenue, which will extend three inches over property
<br />line at the extreme point of the canopyts arch, was next considered and was approved,
<br />provided it is sanctioned by the canopy code of the Building Department.
<br />Next appeared before the Board, l essrs. 1?1. K. Hamilton and John A. Kotzenmacher,
<br />relative to a petition signed by them and several others, for the closing of north and
<br />south alley between East Monroe and East South. Street in the 1300 block, Sunn7,7 ede
<br />Addition. This petition was referred by the Common Council to the Board of Public Works
<br />on motion made, seconded and carried at the Councilts meeting, July 14th, and is being
<br />referred b1T the Board to the City Plan Commission for action at their next meeting,
<br />scheduled for August 7th. ITessrs. Hamilton and Kotzenmacher were so informed.
<br />Rib?. Eugene Michalski, 502 Cleveland Avenue, then appeared before the Board with
<br />the complaint that at the time the ravine in the City Cemetery was filled in, the
<br />equipment used had damaged the curb and sidewalk of the vacant lot owned by 1,1r.1dichalski
<br />at the corner of Cleveland and LaPorte Avenues with the result that water from heavy
<br />rains, instead of running along curb to catch basin, now flows across his vacant lot,
<br />cutting gullies in the alley, flooding basements, and undermining sidewalks. It is
<br />Mr. Yiichalsl:its contention and request that the City restore the damaged curbing and
<br />sidewalk. Further investigation of the situation by the Street Commissioner was ordered
<br />by the Board.
<br />Robert F. Henry, Sr., 217 N. Huey Street, representing St.. John Babtist Church,
<br />(Rev. Bernard L. White, Pastor) next appeared before the Board requesting permit to
<br />conduct a Daily Vacation Bible School for primary age children in a tent to be erected
<br />on the church property. Permission was granted by the Board with the stipulation that
<br />the tent must be approved as fire -resist -ant by the City Fire Chief.

<br />For the Improvement of RANDOLPH STREET from the east line of Sampson Street to the
<br />west line of Ironwood Drive by constructing a Class "C" pavement under Improvement
<br />Resolution No. 2718, 1952, adopted June 16, 1952 and first confirmed on July 14, 1952s
<br />AND
<br />For the Improvement of ELWOOD AVENUE from the west line of 0 tBrien Street to the
<br />east line of Elmer Street by constructing a class "C" pavw.ient under Improvement
<br />Resolution No. 2720, 1952, adopted June 16, 1952 and first confirmed on July 141 1952.
<br />No written remonstrance or remonstrances against said improvement bearing the
<br />signatures of fifty-one (51) per cent or more of the resident property owners on said
