A copy of a letter was received from Michiana Motor Carriers Conference,Inc., under
date of May 12, 1952-and"addressed to all its members; particularly to the Interstate
Motor Freight System, Inc., Keeshin Motor Express Co., Inc., and the Roadway Express
Company, to the effect that inter -city trucks must henceforth use Walnut Street and
Indiana Avenue, the designated truck routes, and that Swygart Avenue is not to be
used by inter -city trucks. This letter was read to the Board by Mr. Hurwich.
Attorney F. Jay Nimtz appeared before the Board in regard to five lots recently
• purchased by Bethel College wherein an easement is involved, which was specifically
set up for the benefit of public utilities only.
It was pointed out to Attorney Nimtz by Mr. Hurwich that to rid this property
of this easement will require the signing off of all public utilities involved. City
Engineer, Ray S. Andrysiak, pointed out that such easements are on rare occasions
used for the laying of water mains. Mr. Hurwich advised Attorney Nimtz, acc:ordingly,
to bring the matter before the Board of Water Commissioners.
Then appeared before the Board Engineer Wm. S. Moore, presenting a drawing of
{ paving plan for Peashway Street. It was pointed out that the property involved is
owned by the University of Notre Dame and that the improvements submitted to the
• Board in this drawing will be paid for entirely by the University. The drawing was
examined and approved by the Board.
Mrs. Gaston Van Acker, 1006 South Twentieth Street, appeared before the Board in
further complaint regarding the new pavement in that block, on which puddles of water
stand until evaporated after every rain. Mr. Wilbur Gartner being present, and speak-
ing in behalf of the contractor, stated that this condition has been caused by two or
three high places, which he believes can be corrected. City Engineer, Ray S. Andrysiak,
advised Mrs. Van Acker that a thorough check of the conc1tion will be made and where
high spots exist, the contractor will have to grind them down.. Mrs. Van Acker also
called attention to a plugged inlet at the southeast corner of Vine and 20th Streets.
This was in connection with Improvement Resolution No. 2673.
