HARRISON and three others for the Pavement Improvement on <br />FELLOWS STREET from the south line of Ewing Avenue to the north line of Altgeld Street <br />AND <br />Petition of NORBERT EIVGELS and twenty-eight others for the Pavement Improvement <br />on NAPOLEON BOULEVARD from the east line of Harter Heights 2nd Addition to the west <br />line of Notre Dame Avenue AND <br />Petition of D. C. NEWMAN and thirteen others for the Pavement Improvement on BULLA <br />STREET from the west line of Portage Avenue to the west line of Medora Street, AND <br />Petition of GUY P. CURTIS and three others for the Pavement Improvement on VASSAR <br />AVENUE from the east line of Olive Street to the west line of Elmer Street. <br />The above five petitions were examined by the Board and referred to the City <br />Engineers for recommendation. The City Engineer being present, made the recommendation <br />that the petition in each instance, be granted, The Board then directed that the <br />firm of Wilbur H. Gartner &;Associates prepare general details, drawnings, tpecifications <br />and preliminary improvement resolution for the five pavement improvements to be con <br />structed and the firm was so notified May 5, 1952. <br />A petition submitted by C. Harry Swanson, Inc. to vacate East Washington Avenue in <br />the City of South Bend, Indiana from the East line of Tuxedo Drive East a distance of <br />one -hundred thirty feet to the West line of Lots Numbered Ninety -Six (96) and Ninety - <br />Seven (97) in Swanson Park Fourth Addition to the City of South Bend. This petition <br />was referred by the Board to the City Plan Commission. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: <br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, brought to the attention of the Board a dust <br />condition on Orange Street between Olive and Meade Streets caused by a material applied <br />last year by the South Shore Railroad between the rails of the track through these <br />two city.blocks. The Board directed the City Engineer to contact the South Shore <br />Railroad and request them to remedy the condition. <br />!� Mr. Tomlinson also called attention to the dust condition at Circle Avenue and <br />;;asked permission of the Board to use the Cityts oil -spreader to apply oil, to be <br />supplied by the business concerns in this area, to alleviate this condition. Per - <br />,mission was so granted. <br />Mr. Tomlinson brought to the attention of the Board a meeting to be held at <br />Indianapolis, May 14, 1952, between members of the Indiana Street Commissioners Assoc- <br />iation and the State Highway Department, mentioning also that the City Attorney should <br />also be in attendance at this meeting in which agreement is to be made as to the <br />specific duties and responsibilities in the maintenance of streets, which are State <br />Highways and under the general jurisdiction of the State Highway Department, The <br />Board authorized and recommended the attendance of both the Street Commissioner and <br />City Attorney at the Indianapolis Meeting. <br />A map of the proposed warehouse of the OtBrien Corporation and bearing the <br />occupancy approval of the City Engineer, was examined by the Board and passed to the <br />Building Commissioner for record of the Building Department. <br />This being the time set, bids were opened for the supplying of a 5-8 Ton Variable <br />Weight Tandem Roller for the Street Department. Bids were as follows: <br />Reid -Holcomb Company, Inc. A Non -Collusion Affidavit and <br />1615 Kentucky Ave., a Bid Bond accompanied this Bid. <br />Indianapolis, Indiana <br />Alternate <br />1 - Galion 5 to 6 ton variable weight <br />Tandem Roller with gasoline engine <br />and electric starter --------------- 5315.00 <br />1 - Galion 5 to 6 ton variable weight <br />Tandem Roller with diesel engine <br />and electric starter -------------- 6645.00 <br />Deeds Equipment Co., <br />913 Main Street <br />Rochester, Indiana <br />1 - New Huber 5-6 ton tandem roller <br />with specifications as per <br />proposal--------------------- <br />A Non -Collusion Affidavit and <br />a Bid Bond accompanied the Bid. <br />$4994.00. <br />The Board approved and accepted the bid of the Deeds Equipment Company for a Huber <br />Tandem Roller with fluid coupling, and acceptance was referred to the Common Council <br />lj <br />!; <br />
