DST on the 5th day of June, 1961 at <br />the Office of the Board of'Tublic Works & Safety. <br />REQUEST.::. OFF STREET PARKING SURVEY (COUNCILMAN COLEMAN) <br />Comes now`Councilman Coleman and requests a'statement from the Board of. <br />Safety outlining the us,: hat would be made of any money that might be <br />appropriated and made available to the Board with reference to Off Street <br />Parking. <br />lr::keeping with this request, the foilowing'letter was directed to the <br />Members of the Common Council: <br />To the Common Council <br />City Hall <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: RE: Off Street Parking Survey <br />A request has been made that the Board of Public Works & Safety state <br />its position with reference to the Off Street Parking Survey, if the <br />Imm Countil made the required funds available to the Board. <br />If these funds were made available, the Board would include the following <br />' in the Plans and Specifications: <br />1. Origin and destination study. <br />2. Use and occupancy study. <br />3. A study as to whether or not curb parking spaces are being <br />properly used, whether time limits and cost are proper, <br />whether more police enforcements should be applied, and <br />whether use of "Meter Maids" should be recommended. <br />4. A study of one way streets to and from the downtown business <br />area. <br />5. A survey of a method of expediting traffic. <br />6. A survey of parking problems in.all neighborhood _business <br />areas. <br />7. A study to ascertain whether more parking meters are necessary <br />and whether unoccupied space should be used for meters. <br />S. An overall study of all matters pertaining to off street <br />sparking needs to :expedite :_traffic -in the community. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />(S) Irving J. Bruggner, was directed to the attention <br />of the Board. <br />The letter deals with the dual laning of. Route 31 between Kokomo. -and South <br />Bend and the completion of the Route 20 by-pass. <br />In the letter, Mayor Bruggner, expresses his concern and deep interest in <br />these matters and is ready to meet with Mr. Toth and all interested repres- <br />entatives in regard to this program and further to arrange: a ;meeting, *th <br />
