a. Adequate Foundations <br />b. Check for and install adequate supports for floor joists <br />c. Provide adequate head room for cellar stairs <br />d. Interior Walls and ceilings need some repair and decorating <br />e. Provide conforming stairs to 2nd floor <br />f. Eave troughs are required <br />g. Replace broken glass <br />Accessory Building: <br />h. Roof needs repair <br />i. Siding needs some repair <br />j. Center column between.doors needs repair <br />k. Beams for rafters are adequate <br />Electrical: <br />a. Clean up wiring and provide additional outlets to meet code requirements. <br />A house to be moved from 1810 Sheridan Avenue to 1739 N. Sheridan Avenue, owned <br />by Dale Besheres, mover -to be Lewis Mitschelen. This dwelling has been inspected <br />by the Building Department Inspector. One BX cabling is needed in basement. The <br />Board approves the move, provided the owner conforms to the following conditions: <br />a. Pro* ider'1§ootings and foundation <br />b. Provide adequate supports for 2x6 floor joist <br />Plumbing:` <br />a. Provide vent for kitchen sink <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - HEARINGS <br />Vernon Lane, Building Commissioner, comes before the Board to advise that the matter <br />of the property at 5#5 Hill Street, owned by Paul Shapiro, concerns the install- <br />ation of a barbeque pit with stack extending over public property, and further <br />that no permit was e1er obtained for erection of said barbeque pit. The Board <br />directed the Building Department to assess a fine for failure to obtain a permit <br />and to instruct the owner to obtain sufficient insurance, indemnifying the City of <br />South Bend for injury or property damage, in connection with the above -mentioned <br />barbeque pit. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION BUILDING DEPARTMENT HEARINGS <br />Comes now Mrs. Joseph Varga, representing her mother, 427 S. Chicago Street, <br />with reference to a small four room bungalow located at 518 S. Chicago Street. <br />The Building Department reported to the Board that this bungalow was overcrowded <br />and directed the owner to see that this condition was rectified, and also that <br />building was brought up to standard. Since no action was taken on this order, <br />the owner was requested to appear before the Board to show cause why the order <br />had been ignored. Mrs. Varga advised the Board that the Welfare Department had <br />visited her and had given permission for present tenants in bungalow to remain. <br />She further stated that dwelling could be brought up to standard in one month. <br />The Board directed that the Welfare Department be contacted for assistance in <br />finding another place for present tenants to live and, immediately upon vacancy, <br />said bungalow is to be brought up to standard within 30 days, or by October 10, <br />1960. <br />Concerning the property at 201ij,_7203 E. Keasey, comes now John Grabarz and advises <br />the Board that he had been authorized to advertise for bids for the demolition of <br />a structure at the above address, but that, through an error, all persons affected <br />by this demolition were not notified. Mr. Grabarz requests the Board tp set <br />aside this authorization for such advertising so that all persons could be notified. <br />Request granted and Mr. Grabarz directed to send letters of notification to all <br />interested persons, return receipt requested. Sub -Standard. Division is to inform <br />the Board and set date for hearing. <br />With reference to the property located at 523 N. St. Joseph Street, Mr. Grabarz <br />requested permission to postpone the demolition for 30 days —or until October 179 <br />1960. Request granted and M`r. GrabABz directed to report'ck to"the Board at <br />that time. <br />With reference to Walter Mitchell at 2509 Longley, Mr. Grabarz advised the Board <br />that he was proceeding to advertise for bids for demolition of this property as <br />previously ordered by the Board. <br />With reference to the property located at 522 E. Keasey Street, belonging to Mr. <br />Fairs the Board directed Mr. Fair to bring property up to standard within 60 days <br />now directs the Building Department to advise Mr. Fair to appear before the Board <br />1 <br />
