September 19, 1960 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, September 192 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting and the Special meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers: TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT - ADVERTISE FOR BIDS.: Comes now Clem Hazinski of the Traffic Department and requests permission to purchase a 1961 1 ton pick-up truck for the Department in trade for a 1956 2 ton pick-up truck. Mr. Hazinski assured the Board that he has sufficient funds in his budget for such a purchase. Under these circumstances, the Board grants permission and directs the Clerk of the Board to so advertise in The South Bend Tribune and The Record on September 23 and September 30, 1960. Sealed bids will be received at 9:00 A.M. C.S.T. in the office of the Board on October 31 1960. INDIANA & MICHIGAN REQUEST -TOWN TOWERS MOTEL A request from Indiana and Michigan Electric Company in the form of .a letter :signed byfA. J. Diedrich, Division Supervisor of Transmission and.Distribution, to construct and install various transformer vault and duct banks on Michigan Street so that the Town Towers Motel will be provided with adequate electrical service was granted, and letter and attached print approved and ordered placed on file. PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT A petition from Mr. Walter Phillips and others for a street light on the Southwest corner of Bendix Drive between Jefferson and Washington was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and report. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - HOUSE MOVES Comes now Vernon Lane, Building Department Commissioner, with requests for the following house moves: A house to be moved from 2318 S. Michigan Street to 921 E. Fairview, owned by Anna.Saros, the mover to be Lewis Mitschelen. Mr. Lane reported that this house is now a two-family unit but would have to be converted into a one -family unit to meet area requirements.It has been inspected by the Building Inspector and electrical wiring is found sufficient. Residents of the Fairview area appeared before the Board to remonstrate this house move. They contended that houses on either side of the proposed new address are bungalows and the two story house will not conform to the other dwellings. They also wished to be assured that the lot on Fairview would not be graded any higher than adjacent lots and that the lot which is 40 feet in width would be sufficient for said dwelling. Mr. Smith advised the remonstrators that there was no law to require that all houses in the area be bungalows. He directed the Building Department to set up requirements for this proposed house move and, if house meets such requirements, the move would be approved. Mr. Vernon Lane submitted the requirements already set up for this house move: a. Foundation b. Adequate beam and columns through center of joists. c. Handrails on stairways d. Remove or repair front porch roof e. Siding needs some repairs and protective coat of paint f. Eave troughs g. Clean-up wiring and install additional electrical convenience outlets as required. by code. h. Replace trap on sink (upstairs apt.) i. Rear grade door needs repairs. J. Chimney top possibly needs repairs A house to be moved from 1730 N. Sheridan Avenue to 1658 N. Meade Street. This dwelling is owned by Virgil Place and the mover is Lewis Mitschelen. This house has been inspected by the Building Department. The Board therefore approves the move, subject to the conditions recommended by the Building Department.
