1/5/70 <br />3 5 -1 <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />421. S. William Street. Max Cohen, owner of this property, did not appear <br />as requested. Mr. Adamson stated the property is vacant, -in bad con- <br />dition, and asked permission for demolition. It was moved the matter be <br />continued one week to allow time to receive return receipt for certified <br />letter mailed to Mr. Cohen on December 22, 1969. Motion was seconded and carried. <br />Max Cohen appeared at 10:25 A.M. and was heard by .the Board. Mr. Cohen <br />again stated it was his desire to bring the property up to standard and <br />promised to do so. He was advised that prior to his arrival the matter <br />had been continued one week and at that time he should appear before the <br />Board with a licensed contractor and sufficient proof to the Board that <br />the property would be brought up to standard. <br />508 E. South Street. No one representing Continental Homes of Indiana, owner <br />of this property, appeared before the Board. Mr. Adamson, Sub -Standards <br />Director, stated the house is unoccupied and wide open. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was granted <br />permission to advertise for bids for demolition of the house and accessory <br />building at 508 E. South Street. <br />O 912 W. Napier Street. The owner of thisproperty (Audrey Duke Purnell) did <br />not appear before the Board as requested. Mr. Adamson reported the owner lives <br />C. in California and return receipt for his letter mailed to her on December 22, <br />L.3 1969, has not yet been received. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the matter was continued one week. <br />15212 S. Walnut Street. James A. Cole, owner of this property, appeared be - <br />ore the Board and stated that he intends to fix up the property. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued 90 days on con- <br />dition that the property is kept closed during that time. <br />1119 W. Napier Street. Neither Frank nor John Kujawa, owners of this property, <br />appeared before the Board as requested. Mr. Adamson stated this property is <br />open and is being vandalized; that John Kujawa is presently in a nursing home <br />and nothing has been heard from Frank Kujawa. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the matter was continued one week for the Sub -Standards Director <br />to make further investigation. <br />1310 and 1312 W. Ford Street. Clifford P. Martin, representing the Menonite <br />Board of Missions and Charities, 1711 Prairie Street, Elkhart, Indiana, owner <br />of .these two properties, appeared before the Board and stated that the land <br />contract buyer of these properties had defaulted and that they have now been <br />turned back to the Mission. Mr. Martin stated 1310 W. Ford Street probably <br />will have to be demolished but that a contractor is interested in reconditioning <br />1312 W. Ford Street since it basically is a good house. It was moved, seconded <br />and unanimously carried to continue the matter two weeks. Mr. Adamson was <br />directed to send a certified notice to Lue Williams to appear before the Board <br />on January 19, 1970, and Mr. Martin was asked to appear before the Board again <br />on January 19, 1970. <br />1023 S. Carroll Street. Willie Boatman appeared before the Board as re- <br />quested. He stated he is the owner of the property and is willing for it to <br />be demolished. It was thereupon moved, seconded and unanimously carried <br />that the Sub -Standards Director be granted permission to advertise for bids <br />for demolition of the structure at 1023 S. Carroll Street. <br />1215 Bissell Street. Willie Mae Stewart,7041 Bennett Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, <br />owner of the property, appeared before the Board an stated that she had sold <br />the property in 1965 on a land contract; that the people had given it up and <br />had left it in a bad condition; that two weeks ago she had an opportunity to <br />sell the property again and this is when she found out about the sub -standard <br />condition; that she is a widow and the sole owner of the property; that it <br />has been in the hands of the Morris Agency, Realtors. Mrs. Stewart stated the <br />new land contract buyers are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Williams, 618 South Bend <br />Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the matter was continued two weeks for the new owners to secure <br />the building and 90 days in which to rehabilitate it. <br />
