12/8/69 No one further appeared before the Board. REQUEST OF POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR VOICE TAPE RECORDER Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of the Chief of Police for permission to advertise for bids for a voice tape recording system, and set December 22, 1969, as the date for receiving bids. The Clerk was directed to publish notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News on December 12 and December 19, 1969. CONSENT TO VACATION FILED - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3301 - E. J. BARANY The consent of Wells Electronics, Inc., to the vacation of: the first north -south alley west of Main Street, running from the south line of the first east -west alley south of Indiana Avenue. Also, the first east -west alley south of Indiana Avenue, running from the west line of Main Street west to the. east line of the above mentioned north -south alley. having been filed, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the City Engineer was directed to prepare an assessment roll. REQUEST TO CONSTRUCT PEDESTRIAN RAMP - SHERLAND BUILDING TO MUNICIPAL PARKING GARAGE The request of Mathews, Purucker & Associates, Inc., 812 East Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana, to build a pedestrian ramp from the second floor of the Sherland Building to the second floor of the Municipal Parking Garage at the northwest corner of St. Joseph Street and Jefferson Boulevard, was presented to the Board by the City Engineer, with the recommendation of the City Engineer that the construction of such ramp be approved on condition that detail.plans and specifications be submitted to the City for final approval before construction is commenced. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of the City Engineer for the construction of such pedestrian ramp, subject to proper indemnification being provided to the City when final agreement has been reached. AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR MOVING TO COUNTY -CITY BUILDING The bid of U. S. Van Lines of Indiana, Inc., in the amount of $3,435.00, being the low bid for moving furniture and equipment from the City Hall and the office of the Department of Redevelopment, 120 LaSalle West Building, contract was awarded to U. S. Van Lines on December 2, 1969, and is this date confirmed and made of record in these minutes. ALARM STATION PERSONNEL - FIRE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimous?y carried, the Board approved and ordered made a part of these minutes the following notice: "August , 1969 Joseph L. Zurat, Fire Chief 701 W. Sample Street South Bend, Indiana Re: Alarm Station Personnel Dear Chief Zurat: Effective January 1, 1970, the City switchboard in the Alarm Station will be eliminated and a new telephone system will be installed in the County -City Building which will permit in- coming calls to be dialed direct to the different Departments. An information desk will be manned on an eight hour basis, five days per week, in the new County -City Building to receive incoming calls where the person:dialing does not know the De- partment.
