132 <br />12/1/69 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bids were referred <br />to the Engineering Department for review and recommendation. <br />OPEN BIDS FOR MOVING TO COUNTY -CITY BUILDING <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the packing and.removal of <br />furniture and fixtures from City Hall and the office of the Department of <br />Redevelopment at 120 W. LaSalle Building, to the County -City Building, 227 <br />West Jefferson Boulevard, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice <br />to bidders in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on November.21 <br />and November 28, 1969, which were read and found to be proper. The following <br />bids were received: <br />U. S. Van Lines of Indiana, Inc., 59542 U. S. #31, South Bend, Indiana. Non <br />collusion affidavit and certified check in the amount of $343.50 were found <br />to be proper. Cer tificate evidencing liability insurance coverage was <br />provided. The total bid was in the amount of $3,435.00. <br />Reaves & Sons, Inc., 54850 Meadowview, South Bend, Indiana. Non collusion <br />affidavit and certified check in the amount of $650.00 were found to be proper. <br />The bid was accompanied by certificate evidencing liability insurance and <br />Letter of reference. The total bid was in the amount of $6,500.00. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to the Purchas- <br />ing Director for review and recommendation to the Board. <br />CHESTER KRAWIEC - 10 FOOT SET -BACK BUILDING REQUIREMENT ON WESTERN AVENUE <br />A 10 foot set -back building requirement being in effect for Western Avenue <br />under Condemnation Resolution No. 97, passed March 12, 1926, Chester Krawiec, <br />who appeared before the Board, was advised by the City Attorney that such <br />requirement must be adhered to. <br />APPOINTMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />appointment of Dennis J. Emery to the South Bend Fire Department, effective <br />December 1, 1969. <br />RESIGNATION - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert, the Board, upon <br />motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, approved the resignation of <br />officer Woodrow Mi-ller from the South Bend Police Department effective <br />December 1, 1969. <br />APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The application of John Allen Kleinrichert for appointment to the South Bend <br />Fire Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel <br />Director for further processing. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />701 Marietta Street and 611 Kalorama Street. Mr. Adamson reported that bids <br />for demolition of the structures at 701 Marietta Street and at 611 Kalorama <br />Street, awarded on November 17, 1969, have been held pending availability of <br />funds for demolition and that now such funds are available. Thereupon, the <br />demolition contracts were executed by the Board and the Sub -Standards Director <br />was given permission to proceed with the demolition. <br />Councilwoman Janet Allen appeared before the Board and complained of the <br />unsightly appearance of the properties at 736 Frances Street and 740 Frances <br />Street and of the premises of the South Bend Foundry. The two properties on <br />Frances Street are under the surveillance of the Sub -Standards Department and it <br />is reported they are presently secured. <br />CHANGE OF SHOULDER INSIGNIA - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Chief of Police Bussert for a change in shoulder patch design <br />from the present insignia to the design submitted to the Board this date. <br />
