<br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR GASOLINE AND FUEL OIL BIDS - PURCHASING DEPARTMENT
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
<br />request of the Purchasing Director for permission to advertise for bids for
<br />gasoline and fuel oil for the period from January 1, 1970 through June 30,
<br />1969, as follows:
<br />Item #1 - 300,000 gals. regular gasoline, more or less, (approximately
<br />240,000 gals. to one location in bulk transport; balance by
<br />tank truck delivery). Please quote tank wagon and bulk
<br />delivery prices.
<br />Item.#2 - 130,000 gals., more or less, diesel fuel #1 or Oil #2
<br />(about 50% heating purpose and 50 % diesel fuel). Please
<br />quote tank wagon and bulk delivery prices.
<br />COMPLAINT - OLIVE STREET SIDEWALK BETWEEN WESTERN AND FORD
<br />Rev. John J. Moskal, Pastor of St. Adalbert Parish, 503 Olive Street, South
<br />Bend, Indiana, and three other interested residents, appeared before the Board.
<br />Rev. Moskal acted as spokesman, stating that the sidewalk on Olive Street, be-
<br />tween Western and Ford Streets, near St. Adalbert Church, in some places has
<br />sunk three or four inches below the curb, causing water to stand in pools ©n
<br />the sidewalk, inconveniencing those using the sidewalk and causing a hazard in
<br />winter when it freezes; that this condition has existed since the widening of
<br />Western Avenue back in the 501s. Rev. Moskal submitted a petition bearing 36
<br />signatures requesting replacement of the sidewalk by.the City at no cost to
<br />the property owners.
<br />After some discussion, the motion was made, seconded and carried that the
<br />matter be continued until November 10, 1969.
<br />REQUEST TO SOLICIT FUNDS - ST. JOSEPH COUNTY COMMITTEE TO END THE WAR IN VIETNAM
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the request of St. Joseph
<br />County Committee to End the War in Vietnam, by Herbert Luckert, Treasurer,
<br />19044 Layden Street, South Bend, Indiana, for permission to solicit,,' -funds to
<br />be used to defray expenses of the organization was referred to the Charitable
<br />Solicitations Commission.

<br />PETITION OF C. R. LAYMAN AND OTHERS - FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE ALLEY BETWEEN
<br />HOLLYWOOD AND INGLEWOOD, FROM WOODLAWN TO OAKWOOD
<br />City Engineer Lloyd S. Taylor files with the Board his recommendation -that the
<br />petition of C. R. Laymon and others for the improvement of the alley between
<br />Hollywood and Inglewood, from Woodlawn to Oakwood, by constructing a Class C
<br />pavement, be granted. And the Board directs Clyde E. Williams and Associates,
<br />Inc., consulting engineers to prepare preliminary plans, estimates and a
<br />resolution for the improvement.

<br />ASSESSMENT ROLL HEARING - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3258/- HARTMAN DRIVE
<br />This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll for the improve-
<br />ment of Hartman Drive, from Rosemary Street to dead end, by constructing a
<br />Class C, Type IV pavement. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication in thb
<br />South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on October 17_and October 24, 1969,
<br />which were read and found to be proper. No remonstrators having appeared and
<br />no written remonstrances having been received, upon motion made, seconded
<br />and unanimously carried, the assessment roll adopted by the Board on October
<br />13, 1969, was in all things confirmed.

<br />This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll for the
<br />improvement of the alley between Berkley Place and Inglewood Place, from
<br />Oakwood to Woodlawn, by constructing a Class C, Type I pavement. The Clerk
<br />tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County
<br />News on October 17 and October 24, 1969, which were read and found to be
<br />proper. No remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having
<br />been received, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the
