8/4/69 REQUEST TO ERECT TENTS - RIVER PARK LIONS CLUB Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of River Park Lions Club, P. 0. Box 2021, South Bend, Indiana, by D. G. Reamer, President, to erect three tents (one 30' x 60' and two tents 20' x 30' each) at the northwest corner of 25th Street and Mishawaka Avenue on September 19, 1969, and to be removed on September 22, 1969, for the purpose of a chicken dinner project sponsored by the River Park Lions Club on September 20, 1969. NEWSPAPER VENDING MACHINES ON PUBLIC SIDEWALK In response to a complaint from the South Bend Public Library of a newspaper vending machine at the loading zone in front of the Library, it was moved, seconded and carried that the Engineering Department be authorized to direct the removal of unauthorized vending machines from the public sidewalks. COMMUNICATION FROM LOCAL UNION NO. 364 - STREET DEPARTMENT AGREEMENT In connection with the agreement, effective 7/7/69, between Local Union No. 364 for Street Department employees and the Board of Public Works and Safety, for the City of South Bend, the following letter was ordered spread of record and a copy provided to the Street Department and a copy to the City Controller: "July 24, 1969 Mr. Lloyd Taylor, President Board of Public Works and Safety City Hall South Bend, Indiana, 466o1 Dear Mr. Taylor; To clarify a few minor points in the agreement signed be- tween the Board of Public Works and Teamsters Local Union No. 364, let it be known that the Union did not intend for this agreement to bind the City Street Department employees to only have vacation periods in the months of June, July and August. It is our hope that where possible the men should be allowed to take their vacations during the summer months; but if some classifications do not lend themselves to this practice, it will be up to the discretion of the Street Department Superintendent to schedule vacations as work loads dictate. However vacations should be scheduled as far in advance as possible to give the employee proper time to make arrangements. Be it further known that seasonal employees (those hired during the summer months for less than a 90 day period) shall not be covered by the provisions of this agreement. FINAL ORDER CONTRACT AWARDED NOTICE TO PROCEED IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3289 - DALE AVENUE For the improvement of Dale Avenue, from Johnson Street to Huey Street, by constructing a Class C pavement with curb repair. Fifty one percent or more of the resident property owners on Dale Avenue having requested that said street be paved with Type IV pavement instead of Type III -A as designated in the preliminary order adopted on Juiy 28, 1969, the preliminary order is hereby rescinded and said street is ordered paved with Type IV pavement.
