7/28/69 <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up:- <br />2502 S. Michigan Street. Mrs. Erma Barber, Elkhart, Indiana, owner, appeared <br />before the Board. Mr. Adamson stated the building has been damaged by fire <br />and neighbors have complained about the condition of the structure. Mrs. <br />Barber stated that she has tried to keep the building secured, and that she <br />wants to sell the property; that she has an option to sell which expires in <br />30 days. Upon condition that the property is kept secured, upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued 30 days. <br />217 N. St. Peter Street. Mr. Adamson reported this building is open and is in <br />bad condition. The owner has been represented by attorney Charles Sweeney. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued one week. <br />116-118 Chapel Lane. Robert A. Bollei of Swank Realty Company appeared before <br />the Board for Mrs. Turley. He stated Mrs. Turley purchased the property on a <br />land contract; that the north side of the building is closed up; that the <br />south side is expected to be vacated in another 60 days; and that w#ien the <br />building is vacant there will be no objection to its being demolished as it <br />would cost more than it is worth to fix it up. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and unanimously carried, the matter was continued indefinitely, and the Sub - <br />Standards Director was directed to report back to the Board when the house is <br />vacant. <br />402 E. Paris Street. Mr. Adamson reported this house unoccupied. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission was granted to advertise for <br />bids for demolition of the premises. <br />1601 Longley Street. Mr. Adamson reported nothing has been done to repair <br />this property. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission <br />was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the property. <br />132 LaPorte Avenue. Ray Millikin, owner of the property, appeared before the <br />Board and reported the premises are partially cleaned up. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, owner was granted 30 days additional in <br />which to complete the cleaning up of the premises. <br />661 LaPorte Avenue. Mr. Adamson reported the owner is "pecking" away at <br />cleaning up these premises, but there has been little change; that the "junk <br />yard" and the accessory building are the problem. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the matter of using the premises as a "junk yard" was referred to <br />the Zoning Board. <br />2207 Smith Street. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission <br />was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the property. <br />703 W. Colfax Avenue. Mr. Adamson reported the electrical problem at this <br />location has not been taken care of. It was moved, seconded and carried that <br />the property be posted as unfit for human habitation. <br />233 E. Paris Street. Mr. Adamson reported the transfer of ownership of this <br />PROPERTY FROM Grant Lewis to Messrs. Agnew and Cathey has not yet been concluded. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued two <br />weeks. <br />1201 S. Carroll. Mr. Adamson reported this structure is full of furniture and <br />junk. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission was <br />ranted to advertise for bids for demolition of the property. <br />fi <br />131 E.Bowman. Mr. Adamson reported neither the owner nor the contractor who <br />ook out the building permit in the amount of some $8000.00 has shown any <br />nterest in rehabilitating this property. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />nanimously carried, permission was granted to advertise for bids for demolition <br />f the property. <br />1 <br />
