Bryant, demolition contractor, asked to be heard by the Board. <br />He stated that he had been awarded contract by the C-ity for the demolition <br />of premises but never got to tear down the building because Jerry Davis <br />would go to the owner and offer to do it cheaper than the lowest bid <br />received by the Board, and that he felt this not only unfair, but that <br />considerable time was wasted in inspecting the premises -and making a bid, <br />and if Mr. Davis is allowed to do this, wny.make a bid at.,a.11. <br />After discussion, Mr. Crumpacker moved that, starting this date, when a <br />demolition contract has been duly signed by the Board that the Building <br />Department be directed not to issue a permit to any onb-other than the <br />person with whom the Board has signed a contract. The motion was seconded <br />and carried. <br />434-436 E. LaSalle. No appeal having been taken nor permit granted to any <br />other contractor to perform the work, the contract awarded June 2, 1969, <br />to John E. Vanek for demolition of these premises is now formally accepted <br />and contract signed by the Board. <br />C 1131 E. Bowman. Mr. Adamson reported that a building permit has been <br />Cotissued to attorney John Montgomery and a contractor for the rehabilitation <br />of this property in the amount of some $8000.00 and therefore demolition <br />contract awarded May 26, 1969, to A. Midwest Demolition and Wrecking Company <br />is not to be dxecuted. <br />121 LLaPorte. Contract for demolition of these premises was awarded to A. <br />Midwest Demolition and Wrecking Company on June 2, 1969, and, no appeal <br />having been taken by the owner nor permit granted for demolition of the <br />premises, the contract heretofore awarded is now formally accepted and <br />signed by the Board. <br />Request for sub -standard property owners to appear before Board June 23, 1969. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of the <br />Sub -Standards Director for the following owners of sub -standard properties <br />to appear before the Board on June 23, 1969, to show cause why such properties <br />should not be demolished. <br />Mrs. 0. Cushing <br />And the Clerk is directed to so notify such owners by certified mail. <br />RECOMMENDATION OF POLICE DEPARTMENT ON REQUEST OF WEST SIDE CHURCH OF CHRIST <br />The Board, upon motion made,'seconded and carried, approved the recommendation <br />of the Police Department, in reference to the request of the West Side <br />Church of Christ for two police officers for traffic control during their <br />revival meeting from June 16 to June 29, 1969, at the 4-H Fairgrounds, to <br />provide extra traffic control officers if and when needed but not continuously. <br />MODEL CITIES PROGRAM - CLEAN-UP <br />The request of Charles Lennon Executive Director of Model Cities Program, <br />in reference to cleaning up the Model Cities Area and the collection of <br />trash, etc., by City vehicles was presented to the Board and postponed for <br />one week for further information from Mr. Lennon. <br />PETITION FILED TO VACATE FRANKLIN STREET BETWEEN WESTERN AND WAYNE - GATES CHEVROLET <br />The petition of Gates Chevrolet Corporation, 333'Western Avenue, South Bend, <br />Indiana, by Van E. Gates, to vacate Franklin Street, between Western Avenue <br />and Wayne Street, was filed and, upon motion made, seconded and carried, was <br />referred to the City Engineer for drawings of the area and for referral to <br />Area Plan Commission for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />
