5/19/69 <br />Mr. Taylor read the "reservation for utility easements from the <br />Vacation Resolution, and Mr. Manuszak stated the the Indiana and Michigan <br />Electric Company had no objection to the vacation of the street and alleys. <br />No other persons having appeared either for or against the vacation and <br />no remonstrances having been filed, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the resolution for the vacation of said property was finally <br />adopted, and the City Engineer was directed to prepare an assessment roll <br />covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to surrounding <br />property owners. <br />PRELIMINARY HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3281, 1969 - ROBERT H. <br />THOMPSON, JR. <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution No. 3281, <br />1969, adopted May 5, 1969, being a petition for the vacation of <br />The first alley south of Van Buren Street, from Alien <br />Street to the first north and south alley east of Allen <br />Street. <br />Proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on <br />May 9 and May 16, 1969, were read and found to be sufficient. Robert H. <br />Thompson, Jr., petitioner, and Howard Henderson, owner of Lot 4, appeared <br />before the Board, in favor of the vacation. No other persons having appeared <br />for or against the vacation and no remonstrances having been received, upon <br />motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, said resolution was finally <br />adopted, and the City Engineer was directed to prepare an assessment roll <br />covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to surrounding <br />property owners. <br />APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The application of Larry Alvin Gildner for appointment to the Fire Department <br />was fr-1'ed-W ith the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing. <br />APPLICATION - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The fol)lowing applications for appointment to the Police Department were <br />filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: William Paul Humphries and Patricia Ann Wise. <br />APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT - LONZO KERR JR. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved <br />thd� appointment to the South Bend Police Department of Lonzo Kerr, Jr. <br />effective May 16, 1969. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - MARILYN JEAN ALLISON <br />Upon motion made, seo)nded and carried, the Board approved the appointment <br />of Marilyn Jean Allison as a special police officer employed by Clark's <br />Department Store. <br />STATISTICAL REPORT FOR APRIL - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Statistical report for April, 1969, for the Police Department, was reviewed <br />and ordered filed, tpgether with traffic report for April. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters.were taken up: <br />730-732 South Bend Avenue. This property consists of two houses on a triangular <br />lot. Harriet Lawson, the owner, appeared before the Board as requested. <br />Mrs. Lawson expects to move into 730 South Bend Avenue and to sell 732 South <br />Bend Avenue, and will secure the buildings. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />unanimously carried, the matter was postponed for two weeks to permit the <br />owner to make repairs and try to sell the one building. <br />
