M <br />4/28/69 <br />There being no other bids, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the bids were referred to the City Engineer for study and recommenda- <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE - FRANK J. BALLATORE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the request of Fireman <br />Frank J. Ballatore for a leave of absence of one year from the Fire Depart- <br />ment was taken under advisement by the Board. <br />APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department of <br />Paul Vincent Boehm and Ronald Theodore Hans were filed and -referred to the <br />Personnel Director for further processing. <br />AQUATIC DEMONSTRATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board granted per- <br />mission for Lieutenant Harold KI,ingerman and firemen Joseph Jelinski and <br />Joe Szucsits to present an acquatic demonstration on June 19, 1969, at De- <br />catur, Michigan, upon the invitation of Thomas L. Mollett, Safety Program <br />Director of the American Red Cross of Washtenaw County, Michigan. <br />POLICE ESCORTS - BLOSSOMTIME FESTIVAL <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission was granted <br />for Police Officers Bruce Stickley and Forrest Milbourn to act as escorts <br />during the`Blossomtime Festival May 17, 1969, at St. Joseph, Michigan. <br />PERMANENT DISABILITY PENSION - EDWARD NAWROCKI - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The report of Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton that officer Edward Nawrocki <br />has been granted permanent disability pension, effective May 1, 1969, was <br />ordered filed. <br />RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - WILLIAM C. HARVEY <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />resignation of officer William C. Harvey from the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment, effective April 22, 1969. <br />CANCELLATION OF SPECIAL POLICE APPOINTMENTS <br />American District Telegraph Company having advised that Ronald Ray Horlander <br />and Ross Mike Perri are no longer employed by that Company, it was moved, <br />seconded and unanimously carried that the special police appointments <br />heretofore made by this Board of Ronald Ray Horlander and Ross Mike Perri <br />be terminated and cancelled. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Mr. J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />201 Wakewa Avenue. Mr. Adamson stated this property is in a good residential <br />area; that the house is open and exposed and that neighbors have complained. <br />Henry Hoover, owner of the property, appeared before the Board. Mr. Hoover <br />stated he had repaired the place and secured it many times but it seems to be <br />impossible to keep it secured. His intention is to preserve the property. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued <br />for one week to allow Mr. Hoover time in which to secure the building. <br />1825 Benton Street. Mr. Adamson stated this property is open and has been <br />broken into. Mr. and Mrs. George Visocky, owners of the property, appeared <br />before the Board. They stated they had attempted to board the place up but <br />it seems to be impossible to keep it that way. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and unanimously carried, the matter was continued for one week to afford the <br />owners an opportunity to secure the building: <br />
