4/21/69 <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board, and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />1131 E. Bowman. Mr. Adamson reported this house is open, has had a fire <br />and is in bad condition. Attorney John Montgomery appeared before the <br />Board on behalf of the owner, stating it is up for sheriff's sale on <br />May 8, 1969. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was post- <br />poned until May 12, 1969, on condition that the building be closed up in <br />the interim. <br />1529 W. Colfax. This being the date set, bids were opened for the de- <br />molition of this property. INon collusion affidavits, accompanying each <br />bid, were found to be proper. Bids were as follows: <br />O'Neal Trucking Company $335.00 <br />John E. Vanek 396.00 <br />A & J Demolition Co. 375.00 <br />Harvey R. Bryant 435.00 <br />A. Midwest Demolition & Wrecking Co. 580.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, contract for demolition <br />of the property was awarded to O'Neal Trucking Company, that being the lowest <br />and best bid received. <br />302 E. Pennsylvania. William Marvel, owner of this property, did not appear <br />as requested. Mr. Adamson stated.there had been a fire here about a year <br />ago and that the house is open. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, permission was granted to advertise for demolition of the property. <br />1407 S. Rush Street. David C. Sharp, the owner of this property, did not <br />appear as requested. Mr. Adamson stated that this property had been de- <br />molished by the owner in a satisfactory manner. <br />526 Arthur Street. Mr. Adamson stated the owner of this property, who lives <br />in Chicago, was in to see him and that she is now willing -..to have the property <br />demolished. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board <br />granted permission to advertise for bids for demolition -of the property. <br />2117 W. Washington Street. Mr. Adamson stated that he had inspected these <br />premises this morning and that the structure is standing open and that the <br />debris and junk had only partially been cleaned up. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, permission was granted to advertise for bids <br />for demolition of the premises. <br />715 Marietta Street. Mr. Adamson stated that his investigation discloses that <br />Gene Oakley of Indianapolis is the owner of this building; that a telephone <br />conversation was had with Mr. Oakley who advised that he expected to be in <br />South Bend shortly and that he would have the materials removed and the <br />building made safe. <br />1212 Rush Street. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the <br />Board granted permission to advertise for bids for the demolition of this <br />building. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the re- <br />quest of Mr. Adamson for the owners of substandard buildings to appear be- <br />fore the Board on May 5, 1969, to show cause why the following structures <br />should not be demolished: <br />134 N. Olive Street Anderson Jones <br />1053 LaSalle Street Martha Faulkner <br />1509 W. Sample Street (accessory bldg.) George Hunter <br />7282 S. Fellow Street Mrs. Ella Mae Seward <br />And the Clerk was directed to so advise such owners by certified mail. <br />
