4/7/69 <br />PUBLIC AUCTION - 1954 AMERICAN LAFRANCE 750 GPM PUMPER TRUCK AND <br />ONE BROWN FIBERLINE DEVELOPING SINK <br />This being the date set for selling at public auction a 1954 American LaFrance <br />750 GPM Pumper Truck, Serial No. 15005, Engine No. 58430 and one brown <br />Fiberline developing sink, 44" wide by 36" high by 100" long, the *Clerk <br />Tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County <br />News on March 7, 14, 21 and 28, 1969, which were read and found to.be proper. <br />Resolutions 3-3-69 and 3-3-69-A authorizing such sales were read. <br />Bids for the pumper truck were called for. Fire Chief Zurat described the <br />truck stating that the engine was gone and it would cost about $5000.00 to <br />repair it, that -it had been purchased in 1954 and had served its purpose <br />and also that the pump was too small, and for these reasons was being <br />offered for sale. <br />A bid of $250.00 was submitted by Joe Hunt of the American LaFrance Company. <br />There being no other bids, Mr. Taylor called for bids on the developing sink. <br />It was explained that the sink had been purchased when the Municipal Services <br />building was constructed, as specified by the contractor, but that it could <br />not be used and had not been used, and therefore was being offered for sale. <br />Lewis Whalen, of Schiilings Sales Company, 329 S. Lafayette Boulevard, South <br />Bend, Indiana,'submitted a bid of $25.00. <br />There being no further bids, Mr. Taylor declared the bidding closed, and the <br />bids were taken under consideration. <br />COMPLAINT RE INSURANCE REQUIREMENT <br />Richard Ellis, of Courtesy Cab Company, appeared before the Board for the pur- <br />pose of requesting lower insurance requirements, stating that their insur- <br />ance rates had become so high they were trying to get their liability reduced <br />and their first request was being made to the Board of Public Works and Safety. <br />Mr. Taylor explained that the insurance coverage of $100,000.00 and <br />$300,000.00 is set by City ordinance and directed Mr. Ellis to present his <br />request to the Common Council. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - MOVING HOUSE <br />Forrest West, Building Commissioner, appeared before the Board in connection <br />with permit issued to Lewis Mitschelen for house moving: Also appearing <br />before the Board were Lewis Mitschelen and property owners Mrs. C. E. <br />Snellenberger, 922 N. Lawrence Street and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hagle, 917 <br />N. Lawrence Street. <br />Mr. West explained that Lewis Mitschelen had applied for permit to move two <br />houses --one from 806 N. Notre Dame Avenue to 913 N. Lawrence Street and one <br />from 920 N. Notre Dame Avenue to 915 N. Lawrence Street --to which the <br />property owners objected as being too small a space for two houses. <br />Mr. West further explained that Mr. Mitschelen now wants to move only one <br />house --from 806 N. Notre Dame Avenue to 913 N. Lawrence --and that the house <br />will be centered on the two lots. The interested -property owners stated <br />they would welcome one house and would have no objection if it were properly <br />installed within a reasonable time. Mr. Mitschelen stated that he hoped <br />to have the house completely installed within 60 days and ready for resale. <br />No further objections were made, and, upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />the Board approved the permit to move the house from 806 N. Notre Dame <br />Avenue to 913-N.•Lawrence Street. <br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - PAUL MUSZIK <br />The application and declaration for retirement from the Fire Department submitted <br />by Paul Muszik, effective April 1, 1969, upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />was approved by the Board, Mr. Muszik having been appointed March 2, 1949 <br />and having served more than 20 years. <br />
