73 <br />4/7/69 <br />REQUEST TO ATTEND EMERGENCY CARE & TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Fire Chief Joseph L. <br />Zurat-for firemen Stephan Sheets and John Nelson to attend the Emergency <br />Care and Transportation Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 10 <br />and 11°, 1969, was approved. <br />APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were <br />filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: <br />Charles William Harrison <br />Benny Winters <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were <br />filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: <br />M <br />• Willie Neal <br />Michael Lawrence Szedenik <br />TRAFFIC REPORT FOR MARCH, 1969 - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Traffic report of the Police Department for March, 1969, was reviewed <br />and ordered filed. <br />COUNCILWOMAN JANET ALLEN attended the meeting, and reported that she had <br />had further complaints regarding the route being taken by garbage trucks <br />from Mishawaka to the landfill. Mr. Taylor reported having written to the <br />Mishawaka Sanitation Department and will check with them further. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board, and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />1814 S. Phillipa Street. Joseph Hutter, owner of this property, appeared <br />before the Board as requested. Mr. Adamson stated that Mr. Hutter had <br />failed to comply with requests of the Department to remove old,cars, junk <br />and lumber from the premises. Mr. Hutter stated that he will get the <br />premises cleaned up and remove the cars, junk and lumber. Thereupon, <br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, Mr. Hutter was granted one week <br />within which to put the premises in acceptable condition. <br />1529 W. Colfax. Beatrice Wilder, owner of this property, appeared before <br />the Board, as requested. Mr. Adamson stated -this property is open and in <br />bad condition. Miss Wilder stated she had no objection to the City de- <br />molishing the building and that she understood this would constitute a- <br />lien against the property., Upon motion made, seconded and carried, per- <br />mission was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the property. <br />1015 S. Columbia. Joe Zellner, owner of this property, did not -appear <br />before the Board as requested. Mr. Adamson stated this house is open and <br />is:-- n'bad-zonditiou. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, permission <br />was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the property. Mr. <br />Adamson was instructed to first make an inspection and if the :building <br />is still standing, then to advertise for bids for demolition. <br />528 Harris Street. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Herring, owners of this property, <br />appeared before the Board. Mr. Adamson stated that this house is open and <br />creating a problem. Mr. Herring stated that he had obtained two bids to re- <br />habilitate it but that he cannot afford to pay that much and that he can <br />do nothing about the property. Upon motion made, seconded and carried; <br />an extension of one week was granted for Mr: Herring to decide whether he <br />will accomplish the demolition. <br />
