V f <br />3/24/69 <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />2117-2119 W. Washington Street. Charles E. Stafford, 111 S. Cherry Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana, and attorney Richard Doyle appeared before the Board. <br />Mr. Doyle stated he had looked at the property and thinks it looks worse <br />than it really is. Mr. Stafford and Mr. Mitchell want to go ahead with the <br />repairs. Mr. Stafford believes he can have the property put in good repair <br />within 90 days, or at least the outside of the structure. He states <br />originally he planned to have a restaurant and pool hall at this location <br />but now thinks he will rehabilitate it for sale. Upon the promise of Mr. <br />Stafford to clean up the premises and to provide the Board a written -commit- <br />ment that the bwild.ng will be brougfit 60 to standard within 90 days, the <br />motion was made, seconded and carried to postpone further action for 90 days. <br />Mr. Jerry Davis appeared before the Board and tendered a letter addressed <br />to him from his bonding company stating that the Sub -Standards Department <br />had been notified in error that Mr. Davis' bond was to be cancelled. <br />0 Mr. Adamson stated that he had received a telegram from the bonding company <br />Cr explaining the mistake. Thereupon, Mr. Davis was told that upon evidence <br />he was properly bonded, demolition bids submitted by him would be received. <br />911 W. Oak Street. This being the date set, bids for demolition of this <br />property were opened. Non collusion affidavits were found to be proper. <br />Bids were as follows: <br />Bryant Excavating Company, South Bend, Indiana $800.00 <br />A. Midwest Demolition & Wrecking Co., So. Bend, Ind. $7394-00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, contract was awarded to A. Midwest <br />Demolition and Wrecking Company, Inc., this being the lowest and best bid re- <br />ceived. <br />840 Kentucky. Owners of this property, Robert E. and Edith Tutorow, did not <br />appear before the Board as requested. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />permission was granted to advertise for bids for the demolition of this property. <br />2516. W. Bergen. Mr. and Mrs. John Freeman, owners of this property, did not <br />appear before the Board as requested. Mr. -:Adamson stated they are willing <br />for the property to be demolished. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, permission was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of this <br />property., <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Mr. Adamson for eight owners of sub -standard structures to appear <br />before the Board on April 7, 1969. And the Clerk was directed to send <br />certified notices to such owners directing them to appear, to show cause if <br />any they have why these properties should not be demolished. <br />Ralph Williams, demolition contractor, appeared before the Board to show <br />cause why he had failed to fulfill certain demolition contracts awarded in <br />September and October, 1968, said properties being located as follows: <br />2214 W. Washington Street <br />402 E. Dubail <br />1812 Benton Court <br />Mr. Williams explained that some of his equipment had broken down so that he <br />was unable to work until it was repaired; that it has now been repaired and <br />he expects to have the above properties cleaned up yet this week. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, Mr. Williams was granted an extension of <br />two weeks within which to complete the demolishing of these three properties. <br />MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT FOR TWO-WAY RADIOS <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND WITH SOUTH BEND COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved and <br />executed an agreement for the City of South Bend to maintain and service, <br />for the South Bend School Corporation,the following two-way radio system: <br />
