3/24/69 APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department Were filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Robert Jacob Bradley Terrence Daniel Cernech James William Galvas Frank Patrick Glon David John Kowalski Donald Raymond Stephens REQUEST TO<:;ATTEND INTERNATIONAL ARSON INVESTIGATION SEMINAR - FIRE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for Chief Zurat and Assistant,Chief William Diedrich to attend the international Arson Investigation Seminar in Virginia Beach, Virginia, from April 14 to April 18, 1969. APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Darrell Gene Gunn Phillip Glenn Williams Dale Edward Kusmiez Lonzo,Kerr, Jr. Donald Paul Phillips RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - EUGENE J. PINTER Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton, the Board accepted and approved the application for retirement of Eugene J. Pinter from the South Bend Police Department, effective April 1, 1969. REQUEST TO TRANSFER FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT The request of Police Chief McNaughton for the transfer of funds, as follows: from Acct. P-11 (services personal) to Acct. P-23 (instructions) - $ 500.00 from Acct..P-11 (services personal) to Acct. P-213 (travel exp.) - $2000.00 for the reason that present day demands for increased training in specialized fields requires greater use of these budgets, upon motion made, seconded and carried, was referred to the City Attorney for study and recommendation to the Board. REQUEST FOR.THE ADOPTION OF CLOTHING ALLOWANCE POLICY - POLICE DEPARTMENT The request of Police Chief McNaughton for the adoption of the following clothing allowance policy: "All personnel appointed to the South Bend Police Department will be furnished all uniforms, arms and equipment necessary to the per- formance of their duties. During the second calendar year of service each member shall receive one-fourth of the established clothing allowance for each full or partial quarter year of service during the preceding calendar year. "Ali personnel with less than five full calendar years of service will be provided and not to exceed $200.00 annual alloance for the purchase of uniforms, arms and equipment. The allowance must be used for items specified in the uniform bids accepted by the Board of Public Works and Safety. If a member is assigned to non -uniform duties, he shall be paid the allowance in cash. "Upon completion of five full calendar years of service, cash pay- ment in lieu of the allowance will be paid to the member requesting the allowance in the amount of $200.00. All requests for allowance as outlined in this paragraph must be reviewed and approved by the personnel's respective commanding officer." upon motion made, seconded and carried, was referred to the City Attorney for study and recommendation to the Board. 1 1
