<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bids were referred to the
<br />Engineering Department for study and recommendation to the Board.
<br />OPEN BIDS ,FOR DEMOLITION OF 737 WESTERN
<br />This being the date set, bids for the demolition of 737 Western Avenue, owned by
<br />the City of South Bend, were opened. Non collusion affidavits were found to be
<br />proper. Bids were as follows:
<br />Ritschard Brothers, Inc., 1204 W. Sample Street, South Bend, Ind.------$830.00
<br />Bill Torok Excavating, .54195 N. Burdette, South Bend, Ind. ------------- 610.00
<br />Bryant Excavating Co., 23417 Ardmore Trail, South Bend, Ind. ----------- 467.00
<br />Upon motion made, sew nded and unanimously carried, the bids were referred to the
<br />engineering Department for review and recommendation.
<br />TAXICAB DRIVER'S LICENSE APPROVED - BILLIE J. HENDRIX
<br />The matter of issuing a taxicab driver's license to Billie J. Hendrix having been
<br />continued from January 20, 1969, was again taken up, with Mr. Hendrix present.
<br />After due consideration, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the
<br />Board approved the issuance of a taxicab driver's license to Billie J. Hendrix
<br />subject to revocation should he be found guilty of future traffic violations.
<br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT -.SUB-STANDARDS DIVISION
<br />Mr. J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the
<br />following matters were taken up.
<br />2225 W. Washington Avenue. Mr. Adamson stated there had been a fire in this building,
<br />that it is in a dangerous condition and should be demolished as soon as possible.
<br />Mr. James Barlow, owner of the property, appeared before the Board. Nr. Barlow
<br />stated he was aware of the dangerous condition of the building and would have
<br />taken it down.himself but that he did not -have the.money to do so.
<br />Upon motion by.Mr. Bickel, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board authorized
<br />Mr. Adamson to advertise for bids to be received on February 3, 1969 for the
<br />demolition of the structure.
<br />Since the property appears to be in a dangerous condition, the question arose for
<br />an emergency demolition. Upon motion by Mr. Bickel, seconded by Mr. Crumpacker
<br />and unanimously carried, the foregoing motion was rescinded and withdrawn.
<br />Mr. Bickel thereupon moved that the matter be referred to the Legal Department
<br />for the proper procedure to accomplish an emergency demolition. Motion carried.
