<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the petition was re-

<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3323 - HUMBOLDT STREET
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of the improvement of
<br />Humboldt Street, from Elmer Street to Huey Street, by constructing a Class
<br />C pavement with curbs, was further continued to March 8 1971.
<br />PETITION FILED TO PAVE GERTRUDE STREET, BETWEENEW1NQ AND DONALD STREETS -
<br />G. FRED DITTMAN
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the petition of G. Fred Dittman,
<br />2111 Gertrude Street, South Bend, Indiana, to have Gertrude Street paved
<br />between Ewing Avenue and Donald Street, was referred to the Engineering
<br />Department for study and recommendation to the Board.
<br />INVESTIGATOR POSITION EXPLAINED
<br />At the request of Mrs. Irene Mutzl, present at the meeting, Mr. Taylor, President
<br />of the Board, explained the responsibilities and duties of the investigator
<br />recently employed by the City Board of Public Works and Safety, stating that
<br />-originally this position was in the Street Department as a foreman whose
<br />:.:duty and responsibility was fleet analysis to see that all equipment, which
<br />consisted of some 150 pieces, was kept in a safe condition; that this then
<br />developed into the area of employee safety; and in January of this year
<br />was put under the Board of Public Works and Safety to encompass all depart-
<br />ments.
<br />REQUEST OF "COMMITTEE TO FREE ANGELA DAVIS"
<br />Sherry Van Meter, Box 236, South Bend, Indiana, 46601, on behalf of the
<br />Committee to free Angela Davis, appeared before the Board, having submitted
<br />a letter in reference to the group's proposed fund raising project on behalf
<br />of Angela Davis, and also explained verbally their proposed project of raising
<br />money for her"bail" and expenses of her trial. The City Attorney advised
<br />that if the procedure outlined in their letter is followed no action is required
<br />by the Board, and the letter was ordered filed.
<br />REQUEST TO HOLD PARADE 6/12/71 - SHRINERS' CLUB
<br />The request of Miss Norma J. Ganaway, 214 N. Birdsell Street, South Bend,
<br />Indiana, for permission of the Shriners Club to hold a parade June'12, 1971,
<br />was filed with the Board, and the Clerk was directed to request further in-
<br />formation.
<br />REQUEST TO PARK TRAILER - INDIANA UNIVERSITY
<br />The request of Robert M. Hockemeyer, Assistant Director of Regional Campus
<br />Physical Plant, 1120 S. Barr Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana, for permission to
<br />locate a 60 foot trailer behind the office of Dr. Eldon Ruff of Indiana
<br />University for two months commencing about January 27, 1971, which was
<br />approved by -the Board January 28, 1971, upon the recommendation of the
<br />Building Commissioner, is hereby made of record in these minutes.
