b 1/18/71 STATISTICAL REPORTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT Statistical report for December, 1970 and traffic reports for December 1970 and for the year 1970 were reviewed and ordered filed. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION ° Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken up: 1631 S. Franklin Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this structure has been secured. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of 1631 S. Franklin Street was continued indefinitely and the Sub -Standards Department was requested to keep the property under surveillance. 2116 Western Avenue. Mr. Stratigos did not appear as requested. The Sub -Standards Director reported he had been notified by letter to appear and telephoned personally this date. Upon motion made, seconded -and carried contract for demolition of the structure at 2116 Western Avenue was awarded to Midwest Demolition Company on its low bid August 31, 1970, of $4,413.00. And the Clerk is directed to return the $25.00 deposit to Steven J. Tsalikis. r-i lI~ HEARING ON VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3333 - JEROME F. CLAEYS i' This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution No. 3333 Q for the vacation of: The first north -south alley west of Taylor Street running north from South Street to the first east -west alley north of South Street; also the first east -west alley north of South Street running west from Taylor Street to 152.56 feet west of Taylor Street. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on January 8 and January 15, 1971, which were read and found to be sufficient. The petitioner Jerome F. Claeys and his attorney Louis C. Chapleau appeared before the Board. Also appearing before the Board were Mrs. Frank Litow, 106 E. Angela Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana' and Walter Schoenrock on behalf of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company, 131 W. Lafayette Boulevard, Detroit, Michigan. Upon explanation of the exact location of the two alleys to be vacated, Mr. Schoenrock stated that the property of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad would not be affected and withdrew their objection to the vacation. Mrs. Litow also stated that she had no objection to the vacation of the alleys. No other remonstrances having been received and no one further having appeared either for or against the vacation, upon motion made, seconded and carried, the resolution was confirmed as adopted December 14, 1970. And the City Engineer was directed to prepare an assessment roll. CONTRACT AWARDED - GILMER PARK TRUNK SEWER DIVISION A Upon motion made, seconded and carried, contract for the construction of the Gilmer Park Trunk Sewer, Division A, was awarded as recommended by Charles W. Cole and Son, Inc., consulting engineers, to H. DeWulf Mechanical Contractor on its low bid of $75,443.50. LETTER FROM ELKHART WELDING AND BOILER WORKS, INC. RE ITS BID 12/21/71 Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, a letter dated January 14, 1971 from Elkhart Welding and Boiler Works, Inc., in reference to its bid December 21, 1970, on Item #8, was referred to the Engineering Depart- ment to be considered along with the bids submitted. Thereupon, the meeting recessed at 11:00 A.M. to reconvene at 3:00 P.M. Due to unforseen circumstances, the meeting at 3:00 P.M. was postponed and reconvened at.8:30 A.M. on January 19, 1971, with all members present.
