b <br />1/18/71 <br />STATISTICAL REPORTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Statistical report for December, 1970 and traffic reports for December <br />1970 and for the year 1970 were reviewed and ordered filed. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />° Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and <br />the following matters were taken up: <br />1631 S. Franklin Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this structure has been <br />secured. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of 1631 <br />S. Franklin Street was continued indefinitely and the Sub -Standards <br />Department was requested to keep the property under surveillance. <br />2116 Western Avenue. Mr. Stratigos did not appear as requested. The <br />Sub -Standards Director reported he had been notified by letter to appear <br />and telephoned personally this date. Upon motion made, seconded -and <br />carried contract for demolition of the structure at 2116 Western Avenue <br />was awarded to Midwest Demolition Company on its low bid August 31, 1970, <br />of $4,413.00. And the Clerk is directed to return the $25.00 deposit <br />to Steven J. Tsalikis. <br />r-i <br />lI~ <br />HEARING ON VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3333 - JEROME F. CLAEYS <br />i' <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution No. 3333 <br />Q for the vacation of: <br />The first north -south alley west of Taylor Street running <br />north from South Street to the first east -west alley north <br />of South Street; also the first east -west alley north of <br />South Street running west from Taylor Street to 152.56 feet <br />west of Taylor Street. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune <br />and the Tri County News on January 8 and January 15, 1971, which were read <br />and found to be sufficient. <br />The petitioner Jerome F. Claeys and his attorney Louis C. Chapleau appeared <br />before the Board. <br />Also appearing before the Board were Mrs. Frank Litow, 106 E. Angela <br />Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana' and Walter Schoenrock on behalf of the <br />Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company, 131 W. Lafayette Boulevard, Detroit, <br />Michigan. <br />Upon explanation of the exact location of the two alleys to be vacated, Mr. <br />Schoenrock stated that the property of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad would <br />not be affected and withdrew their objection to the vacation. Mrs. Litow <br />also stated that she had no objection to the vacation of the alleys. <br />No other remonstrances having been received and no one further having <br />appeared either for or against the vacation, upon motion made, seconded and <br />carried, the resolution was confirmed as adopted December 14, 1970. And <br />the City Engineer was directed to prepare an assessment roll. <br />CONTRACT AWARDED - GILMER PARK TRUNK SEWER DIVISION A <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, contract for the construction of <br />the Gilmer Park Trunk Sewer, Division A, was awarded as recommended by <br />Charles W. Cole and Son, Inc., consulting engineers, to H. DeWulf Mechanical <br />Contractor on its low bid of $75,443.50. <br />LETTER FROM ELKHART WELDING AND BOILER WORKS, INC. RE ITS BID 12/21/71 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, a letter dated January <br />14, 1971 from Elkhart Welding and Boiler Works, Inc., in reference to its <br />bid December 21, 1970, on Item #8, was referred to the Engineering Depart- <br />ment to be considered along with the bids submitted. <br />Thereupon, the meeting recessed at 11:00 A.M. to reconvene at 3:00 P.M. <br />Due to unforseen circumstances, the meeting at 3:00 P.M. was postponed and <br />reconvened at.8:30 A.M. on January 19, 1971, with all members present. <br />
