6/22/70 <br />1 <br />REQUEST FOR MARCH - FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Rev. R. A. Deitch, First Christian Church, 320 S. Main Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana, for permission for the congregation of First Christian <br />Church to march from 320 S. Main Street to its new location at 1101 E. <br />Jefferson Boulevard, both as pedestrians and by motor cars, starting at <br />9:30 A.M., on Sunday, July 12, 1970, on condition that evidence of proper <br />insurance coverage to hold the City harmless is provided to the Board. <br />MRSr,' HENRY PASKIN - "END THE WAR IN SOUTHEAST ASIA" CAMPAIGN <br />Mrs. Henry Paskin, 1201 E. Fairview Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, appeared <br />before the Board in connection with the solicitation of signatures to a <br />petition "to end the war in southeast Asia." Permission not required from <br />the. Board. <br />Upon motion made., seconded and carried, the Board recessed at 12:25 P.M. <br />and reconvened at 4:00 P.M., with all members present. <br />REQUEST FOR FOOT PATROL POLICE OFFICERS - W. WASHINGTON STREET <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Felix L. Owsley, Sr., <br />1251 W. Washington Street, South Bend, Indiana, and others, for police <br />officers to patrol Washington Street on foot 'in the vicinity of the 1000 to <br />1200 block of West Washington Street, was referred to the Police Department <br />for recommendation to the Board. <br />REQUEST TO OPEN "ALLEY" BETWEEN CORBY AND HOWARD <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Miss Sarah Sturdevant, <br />and others to open the easement between Corby and Howard Streets, from <br />Jacob to Twyckenham, as an alley was referred to the Traffic Engineering <br />Department for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />PARKING METER SPACE GRANTED 200 BLOCK W. WAYNE - VERKLER CONSTRUCTION CO. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation <br />of the Traffic Engineering Department for the Verkler Construction Company <br />to occupy curb space at meters #1, #3 and #5 in the 200 block of West Wayne <br />Street and meter #23 in the 200 block of S. Main Street, at a fee of $5.00 <br />per week per meter until completion of' the project under way at this <br />location. Cosieredipedestrian walkways to be constructed at these locations. <br />PARKING METER REMOVAL - 200 BLOCK OF WEST WAYNE STREET <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved;the the recommendation <br />of the Traffic Engineering Department for the removal of parking meters #7 and #9 <br />in the 200 block of West Wayne Street to provide access to drive-in windows <br />for the South Bend Federal Savings and Loan, -Company. <br />STREET LIGHT PETITION - NORTH COLLEGE STREET <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the petition of Thomas Fox, 1337 <br />College Street, South Bend,Indiana, and 30 others for additional street <br />lighting in the 1200 and 1300 blocks of North College Street, was referred to <br />the Traffic Engineering Department for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />OBJECTION TO TYPE OF LIGHT POST - OAK LEAF COVE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the objection ofG. J. Aranowski, <br />2621 Oak Leaf Cove, South Bend, Indiana, and six other property owners to <br />the type of light post being installed in Oak Leaf Cove was referred to <br />the Traffic Engineering Department for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />CHICAGO, SOUTH SHORE AND SOUTH BEND RAILROAD - STREET LIGHTING <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of the Traffic Engineering Department for the assumption of <br />street lighting presently under contract by the Chicago, South Shore and <br />South Bend Railroad with Indiana and Michigan Electric Company, to be terminated <br />July 1, 1970, with the abandonment of the South Shore rail line from LaPorte <br />Avenue east.
