6/15/70 RECOMMENDATION FOR APPOINTMENT OF CADETS TO POLICE DEPARTMENT The recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert and Services Division Chief,Glenn Terry for appointment of the following applicants to the South Bend Police Department as cadets was laid on the table for consideration by the Board: Terry Lee Bensley Thomas P..Mammon Joseph Lee Shead Randy Lee Butz Richard D. Orban Leonard M. Szymanski Charles D. Eakins Edward R. Parker Robert A. Szymczak Samuel L. Graber Kelly B. Robbins William W. Schmidt POLICE DEPARTMENT - ADOPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1 Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, physical requirements for appointment to the South Bend Police Department were adopted as follows: "PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS OF SOUTH BEND POLICE FORCE AND PENSION FUND. Any military classification of 4-F or 1-Y or any medical dis- charge may be considered sufficient cause for rejection. EYES - - - - - A minimum vision of 20/70 in each eye, correctible to 20/20. No organic disease of eye. No nystagmus or strabismus. . COLOR Pseudo-isochromatic test. Normal color vision re- PERCEPTION- --quired. EARS - - - - - Hearing 15/15 by whispered voice or 20/15 spoken voice. No chronic otitis media or perforation of ear drum. NOSE AND No infected tonsils, malformations or obstruction of THROAT - - - - nasal passages. TEETH - - - - Must have vital, serviceable teeth including four opposing molars and four opposing incisors. Any plate, denture or bridge is to be considered as sufficient teo-th, providing they are directly opposite NECK - - - - - No enlarged cervical glands, goiter or tumors. SPINE - - - - No curvature of spine in any degree in which function is interfered with. CHEST - - - - No deficient expansion of chest or deformity which re- sults in reducing chest capacity and diminishing the respiratory functions to such a degree as to interfere with vigorous physical exertion or to produce dis- figurement when applicant is dressed. LUNGS - - - - No abnormal physical findings. HEART - - - - -No hypertrophy, murmur or other pathology. Pulse rate of 50 or below and 166 or above which persists is cause for rejection. Hop 20 times on each foot, one hop a second. The exercise test should be given to determine efficiency of the heart muscle, any dyspnea or other symptoms of circulatory failure. A persistent systolic pressure above 140 or a persistent diastolic pressure above 95 before or after exercise is cause for rejection. ABDOMEN - - - -No hernia, abdominal mass or abnormally enlarged organ. RECTUM- - - - No pilonidal cyst or hemorrhoids or anal dermatis.
