<br />RELEASE AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT - BENDIX CORPORATION
<br />Release and indemnity agreement for traffic signals.at Prast and Bendix
<br />between the City of South Bend, by its Board of Public Works and the
<br />Bendix Corporation, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried,
<br />was approved and executed by the Board.
<br />COMPLAINT OF CONDITIONS - 1000 BLOCK WEST WASHINGTON AVENUE
<br />Aletter from C. Davis, Acting Chairman, 1000 W. Washington Block Chub,
<br />complaining of speeding and litter in the 1000 Block of West Washington
<br />Avenue was read to the Board by Aloys Bauwens, 1020 W. Washington Avenue,
<br />and ordered filed. Mr. Bauwens was reminded, or informed, that the City
<br />has spent approximately $5,000.00 in cleaning up the West Washington area;
<br />that considerable relighting has been done, and that six police officers
<br />presently foot patrol West Washington Avenue.
<br />COMPLAINT OF ALLEY CONDITION
<br />Mrs. Louise Rozek appeared before the Board and registered a complaint
<br />concerning the condition of the alley in the rear of 661 LaPorte Avenue.
<br />COMPLAINT - ALLEY OBSTRUCTION
<br />A complaint was filed by Mr. and Mrs. Marlowe R. Smith, 1214 S. 29th Street,
<br />South Bend, Indiana, and nine others of the blocking of the alley in the
<br />1200 block between 29th and.30th Streets, and, upon motion made, seconded
<br />and carried, was referred to the Police Department and to the Traffic
<br />Director for investigation.
<br />URBAN LEAGUE - RE: TRASH PICK-UP
<br />Silas West of the Urban League appeared before the Board and complained that
<br />the City has not followed.through according to a published announcement in
<br />the South Bend Tribune that there would be a city wide trash pick-up campaign.
<br />Mr. West was advised by the President of the Board that the City does not
<br />have the manpower nor the trucks to conduct such a campaign and that the
<br />announcement was made by the Urban League without the knowledge of the City.
<br />REQUEST TO CLOSE CHAPIN STREET FOR MEMORIAL DAY MASS
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
<br />request of American Legion South Side Post No. 272, 1712 S. Taylor Street,
<br />South Bend, Indiana, to close Chapin Street, from Calvert to Bruce Street,
<br />between 9:00 and 10:00 A.M., on May 30, 1970, for a Memorial Day Mass at
<br />the Our Lady of Hungary Church, on condition that proper insurance coverage
<br />is provided to hold the city harmless.
<br />REQUEST FOR 12 MINUTE PARKING - SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the request of the
<br />South Bend Tribune for parking on Colfax Avenue, in front of the Tribune,
<br />for parking to be limited to 12 minutes, was referred to Traffic Engineering
<br />for study and recommendation.
<br />REQUEST TO SELL BUDDY POPPIES - VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS POST #3194
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the request of Schuyler
<br />Colfax Post #3194, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 535 S. Grant Street, South Bend,
<br />Indiana, to sell Buddy poppies May 22 and 23, 1970 on the downtown streets
<br />was approved, having been cleared with the Charitable Solicitations Commission.
<br />BQUEST TO HOLD PARADE 5/23/70 - CHET WAGGONER LITTLE LEAGUE
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
<br />request of Jerry J. Kerczewski,2121 Hollywood Place, South Bend, Indiana,
<br />for the Chet Waggoner Little League to hold a parade on May 23, 1970,
<br />between 8:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M., starting at 1302 Elwood Avenue and terminating
<br />at its ball field on Portage Avenue, providing proper insurance is
<br />in effect to hold the City harmless.
