<br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT
<br />The application of'lRalph John Szymanski and of Kenneth Aloysius Nowak for
<br />appointment to the South Bend Fire Department were filed with the Board and
<br />referred to the Personnel Director for further processing.
<br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - CLEM T. BORKOWSKI .
<br />Upon.motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted and approved the
<br />retirement of Clem T. Borkowski ,from the South Bend Fire Department effective
<br />April 12, 1970, fireman Borkowski having been appointed 12/17.47 and having
<br />served over 22 years.
<br />REQUEST LEAVE FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR MILITARY DUTY - THOMAS L. DUTRIEUX
<br />Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert, the Board
<br />approved the request of Officer Thomas L. Dutrieux for leave from Police
<br />duty from July 11 through July 25, 1970, for military service at Camp McCoy,
<br />Wisconsin.
<br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - TERRY RICHARD WHEELER
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the application of Terry Richard Wheeler,
<br />employed by Redden Travel Bureau, for appointment as a special police officer,
<br />was referred to the Legal Department for recommendation regarding such appoint-
<br />ment.
<br />REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE - WEIGHTS & MEASURES DEPARTMENT
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of
<br />Bert Cichowicz, City Sealer, to attend the 57th annual conference of the
<br />Indiana Association of Inspectors of Weights and Measures in Fort Wayne, Indiana,
<br />April 13 through April.15, 1970.
<br />MONTHLY REPORT - WEIGHTS & MEASURES DEPARTMENT
<br />The monthly report of the Weights and Measures Department for March, 1970, was
<br />reviewed and ordered filed.
<br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION
<br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the
<br />following matters were taken up.
<br />936 W. LaSalle Street. Attorney William A. Hosinski appeared before the Board and
<br />submitted a warranty deed for this property from the owners of 936 W. LaSalle
<br />Street, Jean Pridmore Bryan and Robert J. Bryan, to the City of South Bend which,
<br />upon anotion made, seconded and carried, was accepted by the Board. The further
<br />motion was made, seconded and carried that the Sub-Standards Director be
<br />authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 936 W. LaSalle Street
<br />816 W. Oak Street. Mr. Lamirand appeared before the Board and reported this
<br />structure is now closed. The motion -was made, seconded and carried to continue
<br />the matter indefinitely and the Sub -Standards Director was requested to creep
<br />the property under surveillance and report on its condition in approximately
<br />90 days.
