16 <br />3/16/70 <br />of 90 days within which -to complete the work. <br />Mr. Crumpacker explained the rule of the Board in requiring a $25.00 deposit <br />for the low bidder in cases where bids have been obtained by the City for <br />demolition and the owner thereafter demolishes or repairs the structure <br />himself; and moved that the former motion be amended to inc'ude the require- <br />ment that the owner post $25.00 with the Clerk of the Board for payment to the <br />low bidder, and the further requirement that the owner take out the necessary <br />building permits for rehabilitating the structure within the week. The motion <br />was seconded and carried. <br />816 Oak Street. Mr. John Lamirand appeared before the Board and stated he <br />has tried to sell this property, without success; that the property is in an <br />estate and there are four other heirs to be considered. Since bids for <br />demolition of the property were to have been opened this date, it was moved, <br />seconded and carried that the matter be continued two weeks on condition that <br />$25.00 be deposited with the Clerk of the Board for the benefit of the low <br />bidder in the event contract is not awarded to such low bidder. Mr. Lamirand <br />then deposited $25.00 with the Clerk of the Board. <br />321i Laurel and 1003 Western Avenue. Elmer Makowski, 445 S. Harris Street and <br />Frank Beczkiewicz, 906 Blaine Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, representing the <br />St. Florien Society, appeared before the Board and stated the St. Florien <br />Society will demolish the property itself. It was moved, seconded and unanimously <br />carried that the matter be continued two weeks in order for the owner to close <br />the structures or obtain permits for demolition. <br />227 E. Fox Street. Mr. Adamson reported he had received a letter from the <br />Colonial Mortgage Company, owner of this property, and asked a continuance of <br />30 days. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was <br />continued 30 days. <br />9172 N. Hill Street. Neither Michael nor Ethel Zalas appeared as requested. <br />Mr. Adamson reported receiving a letter giving permission for the property to <br />be demolished. Thereupon, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that <br />the Sub -Standards Director be authorized to seek bids for the demolition of <br />the property at.9172 N. Hill Street. <br />1613 S. Fellows Street. Mr. Adamson reported that mail addressed to the owner <br />Fred Dews, in Amarillo, Texas had been returned undeliverable, and that the <br />house is open and a fire hazard. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, permission was granted to the Sub -Standards Director to seek bids for <br />demolition of the structure at 1613 S. Fellows Street. <br />751 S. Michigan Street. Demolition contractor Jerry Davis, present at the meeting, <br />stated that he has a permit for the demolition of this building and that it <br />will be demolished this week. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />the matter was continued one week. <br />518 S. Rush Street. Mr. Adamson reported this structure has now been demolished <br />by the owner. <br />1016 W. Washington Street. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />this matter was continued two weeks, and the Sub -Standards Director was re- <br />quested to contact the St. Joseph County Commissioners, owners of the property, <br />to ascertain their intentions regarding the property. <br />1143 S. Franklin Street. Mr. Adamson submitted current pictures of the structures <br />as requested by the Board. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />permission was granted to the Sub -Standards Director to seek bids for demolition <br />of the structures at 1143 S. Franklin Street. <br />123 N. Jackson Street. Mr. Adamson reported Mr. Winkowski, who represents the <br />owner of this property, had contacted him asked a further continuance. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued two <br />weeks. <br />1726 S. Taylor. Mr. Adamson reported that an investigation had been made -at <br />this location; that some of the debris has been removed and that the premises <br />are being kept under.surveillance; and that the Health Department also has <br />the property under surveillance. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
