VERHAGEN <br />The following letter was received from Chief Seals: <br />August 23, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />Attached please find an officer's report executed by Corporal James <br />R. Verhagen wherein he is requesting the acceptance of his resigna- <br />tion from this department to become effected on date of September 6, <br />1972. <br />This office recommends your approval of this request. <br />Respectfully yours, <br />s/ Robert W. Seals <br />RWS/mm <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted the resig- <br />nation of Corporal James R. Verhagen as of September 6, 1972. <br />ROBERT URBAN TO ATTEND WORKSHOP <br />The Chief requested permission for Division Chief Robert Urban to <br />attend a workshop for police department administrators sponsored by <br />the National League of Cities and United States Conference of Mayors <br />on August 27-29, at Kansas City, Missouri. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, permission was granted. <br />RETIREMENT OF J. JEROME PERKINS <br />J. Jerome Perkings filed an Application and Declaration for Retirement <br />from the South Bend Police Department as of September 1, 1972. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted the request for <br />retirement with regret and instructed the Clerk to write to Mr. Perkins <br />to thank him for his years of service to the Department and to the City. <br />STATISTICAL REPORTS FILED <br />Statistical reports for the month 6f July were accepted and ordered <br />filed upon motion made, seconded and carried. <br />SPECIAL POLICE BOND - HARRY E. GREER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the special police bond for <br />Harry E. Greer was approved and ordered filed. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB STANDARDS DIVISION <br />202 east Calvert Street <br />William C. Brooks and Jean Brooks and Lee Barnhart having been requested <br />to appear before the Board to show cause why the structure at 202 East <br />Calvert Street should not be demolished, comes now William C. Brooks who <br />stated that he no longer owns the property having sold it some time ago <br />and wishes his name to be stricken from the record. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, Mr. Brooks and Jean Brooks name is stricken from the <br />record. Lee Barnhart, 1522 Adams Street appeared before the Board to <br />state he is trying to rehabilitate the building andhas applied for per- <br />mits to do so. Upon motion made, seconded and carried Mr. Barnhart <br />was granted a period of thirty days to do the work and the sub -standards <br />director is to keep the building under surveillance. <br />1 <br />
