7/10/72
This program requires manpower; the volunteer potential I have noticed in
this program can, I think, be realized; I think we can establish a
M. A. R. C. schedule which will eventually offer this service to everyone
in our community.
I welcome the private leadership; it represents a civic concern of the
highest order. Likewise, the M. A. R. C. program represents a
potential crime deterrent of the highest order. I urge the Board to
approve the request with with the strong suggestion that a concerted effort
amongst all of our most troubled neighborhoods should be the first:
major goal.
Sincerely,
s/ Jerry J. Miller
JJM:az
Chief Seals stated that a press conference will be held initiating this
program on Thursday, July 13, in his office. The letter was ordered
filed and a motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the program.
SGT. JAMES E. ROBISON TO ATTEND ARMY RESERVE SUMMER CAMP
Chief Seals requested that permisssion be granted to Sgt. James E. Robison
to attend annual summer with the United States Army Reserve, from July 14,
1972, through July 29, 1972. He will -be stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
COMPLAINT - MRS. LEE SWAN
Mrs. Lee Swan, 2022 Swygart Street, appeared before the Board to report
drinking during men's softball league games and showed a shopping bag full
of liquor bottles and beer cans to prove it. She was told by Charles Sweeney,
President of the Board, that the administration and police Department are
investigating and the Park Department will be asked to write
a resolution to prohibit this drinking in Public zParks. Under State
statute, the Park Department is able to make laws governing its parks.
Mrs. Swan was advised the situation will be taken care of.
CHARLES LENNON, MODEL CITIES DIRECTOR - REQUEST
Charles Lennon, Model Cities Dieector, asked that the plight of a family
of nine made homeless by a fire July 8th, Saturday night, at 1018 Fuerbringer
Street` discussed. Model Cities has been paying for lodging at a motel
since July 8th out of their funds. Lennon asked the Board to approve a
referral letter from Sub -Standard Homes Department so that it could be
delivered to the Relocation Department and proceedings could be started to
get this family into a home as soon as possible. Approval was granted this request.
MRS. JANET ALLEN - STORE ON ELWOOD & OLIVE
Mrs. Janet Allen was present and again inquired about the business at the
corner of. Elwood and Olive, Eddy's Food Store, 2318 W. Elwood Avenue.
Drainage improvements are needed, lot needs paving. Papers and debris
are blowing around the store a a light installed above the premises is
bothering a nearby resident. The store is in violation of zoning ordinance
because half of the store is on a lot zoned commercial and half on a
residential Jot. Mr. West was not in his office and amotion was made,
seconded and carried to order Mr. West and Mr. Hazinski to attend the
Board meeting on Monday July 17, 1972, personally and show cause
why this situation is still allowed to exist.
COUNCILMAN ROGER PARENT-1320 E.
