36
LETTER FROM STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION
A letter was received from the State Highway Commission, and ordered
filed, stating that the assignment of Mr. Kenneth Herceg to the
Contract TX-9092 Project T-6000 Main Street Underpass, was satisfactory.
BIDS ON PACKET TYPE TRUCK FOR SANITATION DEPARTMENT
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board awarded the bid for
one (1) Packer Type Truck for the Sanitation Department to McCormick
Motors, Inc., 1225 West Market Street, Nappanee, Indiana, on their
bid of $9,800.69, less Excise Tax of $398.00,. , This was the alternate
bid.
TO ASK FOR BIDS ON THE CLEVELAND ROAD TRUNK SEWER
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board instructed the Clerk
to advertise for bids for the Cleveland Road Trunk Sewer, bids to be
returnable on July 17, 1972. There will be a $10.00 charge for each
set of bids.
114 TO ASK FOR BIDS FOR ONE INDUSTRIAL POWER SWEEPER
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board instructed the Clerk
[z, to advertise for bids for One (1) industrial Power Sweeper, as per
L specifications filed with the Board. Bids are to be received up to
9:30 A.M. on July 17, 1972.
CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE - ANCIENT ACCEPTED SCOTTISH RITE VALLEY
A Certificate of Insurance for the South Bend Lodge of Perfection
or Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley was received and upon
motion made, seconded and carried referred to the Legal Department.
MEMO FROM ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER CONTROL OF TRAFFIC
Requests and petitions by businessmen and property owners in the 1600
block of South Michigan Street were turned over to this department
for investigation :,and recommendation.
I met with the petitioners and also with Capt. Sweitzer of the Police
Department Traffic Division and a discussion was held reference the
problem which concerns the congregation of youths in the east -west
alley between Main and Michigan just south of Indiana. Also a parade
of all types of vehicles is continuous in the alley causing congestion,
noise and general littering.
It is recommended that this alley be posted "THISALLEY CLOSED TO
TRAFFIC 8PM to 6AM" "NO LOITERING". Also that NO PARKING signs be
installed on the east side of Main Street between Dayton and Indiana
prohibiting parking between 8 PM and 2AM. Youths park along this
and engage in activities bordering general nuisance. Also to provice
further assistance in enforcement by Police that temporary "NO LEFT
TURN' signs be installed at Main and Indiana, Dayton and Main and
Calvert and Main. These signs will be of the newly devised "drop
type" and will be folded up when not needed. Such signs will provide
an extension of the "merry-go-round" to Ewing Avenue and possibly
discourage it.
Such regulations would be experimental and if results are not as
anticipated then they would be removed.
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the
recommendations and granted permission ;to try them on an experi-
mental basis.
