362
7/3/72
The following letter was received by,the-Board and ordered filed:
June 26, 1972
City of South Bend
Mr. Wm. J. Richardson
City Engineer
South Bend, Indiana
Re: Dry Well Problems German Township
Dear Mr. Richardson:
We, the Steering Committee for German Township, are submitting data
sheets and cost data on additional wells which, in our opinion have
gone dry due to the Dewatering Operations at the Sewage Disposal
Construction Site:
Attached are copies of invoices and data sheets submitted by the
affected parties:
J. R. Kline, Jr. 52459 Lilac Road found it necessary on
April 7, 1972 to replace their (45 ft. - fO ft.) depth
well with a new well 80 feet deep S565.83
Robert Watkins, 52777 Lilac Road found it necessary on
May 6, 1972 to replace their 58 feet deep well with a
new one 85 feet deep $418.10
Rudy Hafstrom, 52723 Lilac Road found it necessary on
June 89 1972 to replace their 58 ft. well with a new
87 ft. deep well. $323.90
Frank Lamson, 52625 Lilac Road, 62 feet well has gone dry
and he is now in the process of hooking up to the City
Water Main on Lilac Road. He has been on Vacation this
past week but will sign up for city water during the week
of 6-26-72. Discussions with Mr. Lamson and Mr. Hawkins
who will make the installation, and myself determined that
the installation cost would be $200.00 less than a new
901/100' well. More on this later. $565.00
We are in the process of checking out additional wells giving
problems as follows:
G. R. Burke, 51615 Lilac Road - 72' deep well.
R. V. Mulhapt, 21379 Mays Drive 100'_41,
D. K. Annable, 52611 Shellback - 77'
Healthwin Hospital deep well situation
You are aware, of course, that we are doing all we can as a committee
to keep the situation in hand and at time some of the people want
to get out of hand and go.
I personnaly have kept in touch with the construction work and it is
progressing very well. The pile driver is moving next week (6126172)
to the west side of the road for work in the second basin. This
should hasten the end of the maximum draw down, or pumping, and per-
mit a return to about four (4) pumps in about sixty (60) days.
We plan on a township meeting in the near future and will advise you
of the date. This meeting is for the purpose of explaining what
was discussed at the meeting with City Officials, E.P.A. Officials,
Engineer and Contractor.
Thank you for your continuing study in this dewatering problem.
Yours very truly,
s/ Paul E. Rudbeck Chairman for
German Township Steering Committee
CC; E.P.A.
South Bend Tribune - Countryman Press
