3_:
1
6/26/72
.tune 23, 1972
Board of Public Works and Safety
City of South Bend
Gentlemen:
We respectfully request permission to position and use as a temporary
office, a modular mobile office on our warehouse property at 334 South
Notre Dame Avenue. We have in process plans to add to and modernize
our warehouse building, which will include a permanent office. 'This
temporary structure is required for the following reasons:
1. Our present facility is an ancient structure which is
almost impossible to heat, not originally intended for an
office, and is in dis-repair from ageing. We anticipate
tearing this structure down if this permit is granted.
2. We are presently under negotiations with the Grand Trunk
Railroad to purchase this property which we now lease. Details
probably will run several months. We cannot begin our con-
struction until this is closed and by then would not be able
to effect occupancy by winter.
We will need this temporary office to operate through the winter,
because of the above reasons, and feel arrangements should be made now
so that we do not get help up during our busy season. We intend on
setting this structure on blocks and skirting for appearance, and heat,
control. It is my desire to request this permit for up to a year which
should be sufficient time for our negotiations and subsequent construction.
Please give this proposal your favorable recommendation.
Yours truly,
s/ Walter F. Lehmann, President
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, this was referred to the Building
Department for investigation and report..
REQUEST TO CONDUCT TENT SERVICES
The following letter was presented:
South Bend Department of Public Works
County City Building
South Bend, Indiana
Dear Sirs:
Emmanuel Church of Deliverance
415 West LaSalle Street
South Bend, Indiana
I am writing to request permission to conduct tent services in the
City.
We conducted these services in Saginaw, Michigan and as a result
people were reached that never attencded church. These were people
who came in off the street, 40 of whom became regular church attenders.
I feel that this type of service would be very beneficial in the South
Bend area and I would appreciate your granting -permission for this.
The measurements of the tent are 60 by 75, and I would like to set it
up on one of the vacant lots between Camden and Liberty Streets, on the
corner at Washington, conducting services from July 16th through July
29th, evenings from 8:00 P.M, until about 10:30 P.M.
would very much appreciate your attention in this matter, for I feel
