Bland, Fire Chief <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board concurred in Chief <br />Bland's recommendation and refused the request of Firefighter David <br />Daren for leave of absence. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Applications for the Police Department were received for: <br />George Roman Greg F. Delinski <br />John A. Jambor Richard L. Redwine <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the above applications were <br />referred to the Personnel Department. <br />CAPTAIN HENRY KRUSZEWSKI TO ATTEND GRADUATION EXERCISES <br />Chief Seals requested that Captain Henry iCruszewski be allowed to attend <br />the graduation exercises of Lieutenant James McMahon from Southern Police <br />Institute June 1st and 2nd, 1972 to represent the South Bend Police De- <br />partment. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the request <br />was granted, and he is permitted to go to Louisville. <br />There are funds in their Education Travel Fund to cover expenses. <br />SICK TIME OVER THIRTY DAYS EXTENDED FOR MARVIN SCHINDLER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the Board approved sick time over <br />thirty days for Marvin Schindler, an additional 30 days, through May 30, ■ <br />1972. <br />LETTER FROM COUNCILMAN PARENT <br />The following letter was presented: <br />May 18, 1972 <br />Mr. Charles Sweeney, Chairman <br />Board of Public Works and.Safety <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Dear Mr. Sweeney: <br />I have been asked by citizens to bring to your attention that many <br />motorists do not stop at stop signs, unless there is another vehicle, <br />pedestrian or obstruction in or near the intersection. Most of these <br />traffic offenders are never apprehended. As you know, merely slowing <br />down at a stop sign is a hazard for others using the intersection, as <br />well as a violation of the Municipal Code. <br />Please investigate this problem and let me ,:know what actions will be <br />taken to eliminate the safety hazard caused by the violation of the <br />stop sign ordinance.
