5/8/82 LETTER FROM MRS. EILEEN DAVIS - CHILD CARE CENTERS A letter was received from Mrs. Eileen Davis, 315 22nd Street, Virginia Beach, Virginia, requesting information on Child Care Centers. Upon motion made, seconded and carried this letter was referred to the Legal Department for an answer. A.C.T.I.O.N. INKIND VOUCHERS FOR FIRE STATIONS In -kind vouchers covering rental valuation for Fire Stations #5, #7, and #8 were ordered filed. Also an in -kind contribution vouchers for Fire Station #10 for the months of April, March, and May, 1972. TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT - DETOUR ON U. S. #20 The following memo was received from the Traffic Department: "The imminent closing of the Colfax Street (U.S. 20) bridge (scheduled for June 1st) will contribute to congestion and loss of capacity of° R-1w LaSalle and Jefferson. In order to reduce some of the volume •they.'Fja: following is suggested: 1.� Gz-, That the Board of Works and Safety forward a resolution to the Indiana U State Highway Department requesting the re-routing of westbound U.S. 20 from Colfax at Eddy Street which is SR 23 to Chapin Street, then north on the inner -belt to Lincoln Way West (U.S. 20). East bound traffic using U. S. would use the reverse of this route by turning off Lincoln Way West at Chapin Street, continue south on the inner -belt to Sample (SR 23) then easterly on SR 23 to a junction with Colfax (U.S. 20). Thereupon, upon motion made, seconded and carried, the following resolution was adopted: RESOLUTION NO. 3 5/8/72 WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, Indiana has entered into a massive urban renewal project for its downtown area, and WHEREAS, the Colfax Avenue bridge ( U.S. 20) is included in the area of said urban renewal project, and WHEREAS, the imminent closing of the colfax Avenue bridge, schedulted for June 1, 1912, will contribute to congestion and loss of capacity of LaSalle Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that said Board hereby requests of the Indiana State Highway Department a detour as follows: SECTION 1. In order to reduce some of the volume of traffic the re-routing of westbound U.S. 20 from Colfax at Eddy Streets, which is SR 23 to Chapin Street, thence north on the inner -belt to Lincoln Way West (U. S. 20). SECTION 11. Eastbound traffic using U. S. 20 would use the reverse of this route by turning off Lincoln Way West at Chapin Street, continue South on the inner -belt to Sample (SR 23), then easterly on SR 23 to a junction with Colfax (U.S. 20).
