27 <br />4/17/72 <br />Longiey Street from the west right of way.line of <br />Meade Street to the east right of way line of <br />Eclipse Place, <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend <br />Tribune and the Tri County News on April 7 and April 14, 1972 which <br />were found to be sufficient. <br />No remonstrators appeared and no written <br />remonstrances were received. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />said resolution, which was <br />adopted on April 3, 1972, was ratified and <br />confirmed and said streets <br />were vacated. <br />The City Engineer is directed to prepare <br />an assessment roll showing the <br />award of damages and the assessment of benefits to surrounding properties. <br />HEARING ON VACATION RESOLUTION NO 57, <br />1972 - STEEL WAREHOUSE, ET AL <br />This being the date set, hearing was had <br />on Vacation Resolution No. 3357, <br />1972, being for the vacation�of Kaley Street from the south right of way <br />line of Tucker Drive, south to the south <br />right of way of the St. Joseph, <br />� <br />South Bend and Southern Railroad. <br />tf� <br />w <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of,publication <br />of notice .in the South Bend <br />V <br />Tribune and the Tri County News on April <br />7 and April 14, 1972 which <br />were found to be sufficient. <br />No remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having <br />been received, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, said <br />Resolution adopted on April 3, 1972 was.ratified and confirmed and said <br />street vacated. <br />The City Engineer is directed to prepare an assessment roll, showing the <br />award of damages and the assessment of benefits to surrounding properties.., <br />CORRESPONDENCE FROM REVEREND RODERICK JOHNSON AND OTHERS - NORTHEAST <br />NFIGNRnRunnn rnuN1111 <br />A correspondence from Reverend Roderick Johnson, President of the North- <br />east Neighborhood Council and Project Area Committee was read and filed. <br />This letter outlined to the Board that the Council had adopted a reso- <br />lution opposing the Alternate Plan III of the Northeast Enforcement <br />Code E-3, which proposes the straightening of the curve at the inter- <br />section of Sorin Street and Notre Dame Avenue. <br />Appearing with a letter of opposition to this plan was Thomas Hirschmann, <br />Box 208, Notre Dame, Indiana. After Mr. Hirschmann read his letter it <br />was also filed with the Board. Others appearing in -support of the oppo- <br />sition were John Reese, Director of the Northeast Neighborhood Center; <br />Mrs. Olive Carpenter, 605 N. Notre Dame Avenue; Mr. Fred Mollaer, 908 <br />E. Sorin Street; and, Mr. Ray Evan, 910 E. Sorin Street. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the letters were referred to the <br />Engineering Department for consideration. it was suggested that Mr. <br />William J. Richardson, City Engineer, meet with the people of the north- <br />east side and explain to them the other alternatives of this project <br />and the reasoning behind the proposed plan. <br />REQUEST OF VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, POST 1167 TO HOLD POPPY SALE <br />South Bend Post No 1167, Veterans of Foreign Wars, request permission <br />to hold their annual Poppy Sale on the streets of South Bend on Friday <br />and Saturday, May 19 and May 20, 1972. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />carried, said request was approved subject to the approval of the <br />Charitable Solicitations Commission. <br />
